I've been following Chad Valley's music through a couple of EPs and a handful of singles, so I was super excited when he announced a full studio album! Musically, the second decade of the 21st century seems to be a full-on retro embrace of 80's and 90's sounds and production values tempered with EDM beats. You can't go wrong with pretty much anything on the Modular label or Domino or any of the Kitsune Maison compilations. Earlier Chad Valley tunes were very reminiscent of the dreamy Washed Out / Toro Y Moi vibe: slow grooves, electronic elements, soft vocals, and a big emphasis on melody. When I heard the first single off Young Hunger, I was instantly transported to my first time hearing Tears For Fears "Songs From the Big Chair". Hugo Manuel's voice sounds a lot like Roland Orzabal or even Neil Tennant at times. The rest of the album varies musically from new wav'ish pop to Jimmy Jam / Terry Lewis sounding grooves with some great collaborations with musicians like Twin Shadow and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Fun album!

Young Hunger is nothing short of a balearic/chillwave masterpiece. Chad brings the best from the 80's and 90's into the forefront of modern electronic music. Young Hunger is like wine tasting- it provides a fun variety of vintage music styles that are deliciously sweet and tinged with a class that is all but gone from modern mainstream pop.

I love Chad Valley's sound. Depending on the song, it's fun and danceable, or soothing and downtempo. His falsetto voice works nicely with the tracks. I love his collaborations with different artists on this album. This is the kind of album that just leaves me wanting more. I love every track. It combines the best of everything. I loved Enigma and Deep Forest, 80's pop, as well as contemporary artists like Active Child, M83, and Washed Out and this album makes me feel like I am listening to them all rolled into one.

I had never heard of Chad Valley, but received the free single "My Girl". I, at first, thought this was a remake or parody of the Spice Girls "Wannabe". Anyway, this is actually one of the weaker songs on the album. The first two songs get the album off to a fast start and set the tone. Chad Valley is similar to Active Child, but more pop focused and sunnier. He collaborates with some excellent partners, such as Active Child and El Perro Del Mar. After one listen, I was singing these songs to myself. I recommend this album, as it is fun and well worth your time.

This is a great album from both a musical and technological standpoint.

If you've ever seen Chad Valley perform live, you know it's just him, two microphones and his synthesizer. This digital technique comes across amazingly well through a nice pair of headphones.

I've been playing it on repeat for the past several weeks. I just can't get enough.
