This album just takes me right back to my totally graphitied cheap hotel room, in 1979. I was a full on Punk, and this was one of our fave albums. When we were running H we used to shoot the extra blood in the rig at the record. A blood sacrifice. It sounds kind of just as crappy as it ever did (this record really deserves too be remixed and remastered) But the whole Punk era shines through. I love finally hearing this again, and I've played it about 20 times since I got it. If you were there you know how cool this album is. My week beats your year!

why is it that every time i know some one totally into the stooges or ramones theyve never heard of the dead boys?? Its mind boggling but what can you do? the entire album is basically a punk goldmine. Its hard to believe but personally ive got to say i think the dead boys first album beats the pants off the ramones debut and thats coming from a die hard cretin!!! if you havent listend yet and are a fan of james willamsons guitar playing on raw power give this album a listen because its soooo obvious cheetah chrome modeled his incidiary screeching solos after the late great stooge guitarist

As others have noted, one of the greatest punk records of all time but it seems it never gets mention. Dammed Dammed Dammed, Bollocks, Damaged, Fresh Fruit, G.I., i mean this is right up there with those. Essential. Still influential today....thrash band Overkill closes with Sonic Reducer on occasion.

young, loud & snotty pretty much sums up what the dead boys were all about, loud aggressive guitar punk rock. there is simply not a bad song on this album. from sonic reducer to down in flames, they take you on a journey into the very soul of punk. I mean who else would write a song called " caught with the meat in your mouth" yea, its all about attitude.

This album is sooooo kickass. Stiv Bators is an animal on vocals. He kills (in a great way) every song. The way Bators and the band attack "I Need Lunch" you come away saying to yourself "how can you top this?" The answer is you cannot. Forget about this album being one of the greatest punk albums of all time it should be considered one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Need I say more? I don't think so.

Hard driving punk

The Dead Boys represent a hard driving punk, which is slightly sloppy but powerful, more like early middle punk, with some elements of rock and far from the simplistic punk of the Ramones or the garbage of the Sex Pistols or the experimental atonality of art punk bands. Great guitar work from both guitarists, this is the best of their cds. If you like Jesus Lizard, check this out.

The Dead Boys never really broke through into the public's consciousness, despite being one of the earlier punk bands. On 'YLS' though, they're focussed on their anger and buzzsaw guitars, Stiv Bators muttering and cursing between his hoarse vocals. The cover shot shows the band lurking like rats in an alley and their musical world is indeed that of a disease-infested underclass. Edgy and exciting almost throughout, they slip up occasionally: 'What Love Is,' for instance, doesn't have the intensity of most of the other songs. 'Sonic Reducer' sets the pace with an arresting intro, while 'Not Anymore' relies heavily on an impassioned delivery and the blam blam of 'Ain't Nothin' To Do' is punk at its best. The live 'Hey Little Girl' is another highlight. This is a popular punk track, having been also recorded by The Banned at around the same time. 'YLS' is an important addition for anyone who likes this genre.
