However, I'm incredulous at the idea that you simply throw the entire book away and get another one, when all that really needs to be replaced is three small watch batteries. This is one of the most wasteful concepts I have ever seen. It creates unnecessary landfill and sets a terrible example for children. How does this teach them to be responsible in an age of dwindling resources?
I just spent the last hour with a set of needlenose pliers extracting the battery. It can be done, but the "dinger" has been purposefully designed so that it destroys the switch that makes it play if you attempt to replace the batteries. I think I've been able to salvage this one, but most will probably not be so patient as I was.
Why can't the batteries be replaced? Why can't the "dinger" be replaced? Shame on the publisher for putting out such a wasteful product.

The cover of the book said "Row Row Rowan"- someone had written Rowan on the front. In the back a happy birthday message was written on the book. And it didn't work. Read morePublished 7 months ago by Mitzi Sacks

Batteries died within a few weeks after purchasing the book. There is no way to replace them and it really takes a lot of fun out of the book when the song won't play.Published on February 23, 2013 by Jon Douglas
