Basically, if you want to get better at shooting (or anything really) you have to know what needs to be improved, how to improve it, and the steps you need to take to get it done. You then need to do the work to get better.
Mike does a great job at addressing the core mental game skills a shooter needs to have to be consistent. This is something lacking in most other books on the subject.
Bottom line- If you are a practical shooter and want to get better, buy this book. It will be money well spent.
The only thing that didn't line up exactly with how I train is the very regimented way that your are supposed to accomplish the drills. I agree totally with what he is trying to get you to accomplish it just seems too programmed for me. That is something that will totally vary with each person so take that for what it is worth. This I think is the only thing that reduced it from Brian Enos book which has a much more introspective take on training.
So overall a great book to advance your skills. Has some good drills in it and is written from the perspective of a seasoned competitor. I find it a good addition to a competitive shooting library.
If I could only choose one book for learning our sport, this would be it. Also, get his DVDs as well. At least for me, watching Mike perform his drills added greatly to the book.
Also a great follow up to Brian Enos book, 'Practical Shooting : Beyond Fundamentals' which I read before purchasing this book.
I highly recommend getting the DVDs - or the Amazon Instant Videos which I rented first to check out and then bought both. They complete the training and are something you can always go back to for reference. I bought the AIV videos so I could watch them on my Kindle Fire when I'm at the range - its like having him there with you. ;)
