There are no better books to entertain and educate youngsters. Some of my favorite memories are reading these *with* my children - they could read other books before entering school by mastering the vocabulary in these. And we all shared in their delight. Now my grandchildren do.

Perfect for our niece

Our little niece was celebrating her first Christmas, and we felt the need to provide some traditional gifts to get her started. Naturally, she won't be reading even Dr. Seuss any time soon, but it does give her parents a great go to book so that they can read to her.

Like many of the other reviewers have mention, this is not a book for little hands to hold. It's thick and heavy, not designed for children. However, it IS the perfect solution to keep on the nightstand for the parent to share and read from. The illustrations are great, too. If you're buying this for the child to read, I'd hesitate. If you bought it as we did for the parent to read from, you've found a great, cost-effective solution.

I was really excited about this book, but it didn't meet my expectations. The main problem is the format. Many of the illustrations lay in the middle of the book, so they disappear into the crease or look cut off. It also squeezes two pages from the original version into one page here, so it doesn't flow as well and the illustrations are much smaller even thought the book is so big.

Bought this right before Christmas this year during an Amazon Dr. Seuss sale. Paid just over $11 for this, and it's Ah-mazing! The book is huge, a hair larger than 9.25 x 12 inches and 1.25 inches thick. It's a little larger than what would be comfortable for a lap reading book, as it will definitely take 2 hands to hold while reading it due to the size.

There is a dust jacket that is metallic and very pretty.

Overall a beautiful book made even better by an amazing sale price!

Don't mind that there are two original pages on one page in this book. Want to collect all the books I read when I was younger for my son. For 4 Dr. Seuess books in one it's double the price. I might invest in those later on but this is a good start.
