Well written, comprehensive and easy to understand. In the introduction, Chris states "You may be looking for ways to naturally treat a particular health problem such as Irritable Bowl Syndrome..." and then goes on to promote the Paleo diet as the solution to a myriad of diseases. I have the highest respect for Chris, but imagine my surprise, when I get to page 346 (out of about 400), that I discover that anyone with GERD, IBS, IBD or any digestive disorder should not be following a Paleo diet, but a low FODMAP diet !! I realize that there is overlap between the two diets, but I was really hoping to use the meal plans put forth in this book. Chris does not provide any way to modify any of his meal plans to adapt them to a low FODMAP plan in his extensive online additional materials.

If you’re looking for the definitive book on health in general, and the Paleo diet specifically, this is it!!! The author outlines a three-part plan to customize the Paleo diet for your specific needs, beginning with a 30-day “Restart.” During the 30 days, you return to a diet plan that conforms to that of our distant ancestors, allowing your body to heal itself of the chemicals in processed (and otherwise adulterated) or mismatched (i.e. for human consumption) foods. By the end of the 30 days you should feel better than ever.
It only took me a day or two to begin to feel a difference! I am nearing the end of my 30-day Restart, and, having tried most of the diets out there, including low-fat, low-carb, vegan, vegetarian, raw-foods vegan, and counting points, I can only say that after all these years I’ve FINALLY found the right diet for my health and weight loss.
(The book also discusses other health-related issues, such as sleep, exercise, and stress-management.)
Many of my aches and pains have disappeared, my blood pressure is lower, my skin in softer, the lines on my face are disappearing or lessening, and I’m sure most, or all, of my other issues will resolve in the near future.

My expectations were not high when I ordered this book, but I had hoped for more concrete information than it contains. To begin with, the writer's style is like a teacher gently talking down to a classroom of children. The further I read, the more irritated I became with his apostolic directives to do this and not do that. Is this what the average health-conscious American has come to expect? Actual information, aside from a few charts and graphs, is thin, and the best I was able to do is distill a list of good foods/bad foods, which can be done from the internet, and an overview of the so-called Paleo Diet. The author's insistence that grains are toxic seems preposterous in view of our history and to be honest, anyone with even a basic knowledge of healthy diets (ie. artificial sweeteners are bad, grass-fed beef is good) is way ahead of this guy's game. I would recommend books from the 1970's eg. Frances Moore Lappe's 'Diet For A Small Planet', in preference to this book's incessant and frequently repetitive touting of nutrient dense foods with not even a nod given to environmental impact of all that meat-eating.

I am a physician and I read it complete. I also listened to Joe Rogan's podcast with the author and the protagonist of "Game Changers". I'm not vegan or an advocate in any way to any diet. I bought the book because I engaged with his idea of a balanced diet and how he presented things in JRE. In this book there are too many personal experiences and opinions NOT backed up by Evidence Based Medicine; and I am concerned people will engage and get hurt.
One only question: the "reset" diet time; why 1 month, why not 2 weeks or 2 months. Where's is the RCT (Randomized Controlled Trial)?
I don't doubt his successes are real, but what is the evidence behind him. AND in Joe Rogan's podcast it was proven he can't claim he can interpret the evidence; even more: his statements about Vitamin B12 and protein quantities showed that he has no grasp of nutritional science.
Could work for you, but don't believe it does because of science; if anything is a personal account of his own experiences and what worked for him and SOME patients, and selling it as hard science is dangerous.

I was skeptical at first for the first few chapters if this would be a book for me. I have read almost every book out there on nutrition and lifestyles from Atkins on one extreme to being a Vegan on the other extreme. While, some of the food choices that the book suggests I dont see myself ever eating, this book is much more than nutrition. I like to hear different perspectives anyways and he backs what he says up with research even if it's a food choice that is not for me. However, I found myself following so many of the recommendations in this book (not 100%), but many on the supplements, types of food, and interesting things he talked about for improved sleep and stress management. Overall, this is one of the best books I every read on nutrition and lifestyle. It really is a lifestyle book. Like I said I did not follow 100%, but I got so much out of it in totality and it is VERY WELL WRITTEN (I did the audio version of the book) and I really enjoyed how it was organized and put together.

My favorite book of all time! I have lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks using these principals. Kris Kresser is awesome and conveys the message in a very understandable and easy way. The book is easy to follow and has plenty of room for flexibility. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is having health issues or just can't seem to shed the extra weight. You will feel and look better immediately!

This is a book like no other

This is a book like no other. Chris Kresser has poured over every bit of research and is constantly critically appraising new research (see his website) so his approach to health is evidence based. This is not a diet book this is a book for people who are serious about changing their health, healing their body and preventing disease. I gave up sugar and wheat and within a week all of my joint pain was gone. As Chris explains there's a lot more to paleo than stacks of meat, and one size does not fit all. Read it and change your health and your life.

This book is a duplicate book by Chris Kresser 'Your Personal Paleo Diet'. Only the titles differ. It would be helpful if a note was made of this for buyers to avoid disappointment.

Not strictly paleo in a good way.

Essential reading for anyone who has digestive issues or autoimmune disease - actually it's important reading for everyone looking to lead a healthier lifestyle. Recommended this book to so many people already. It's slightly different to other paleo books out there as it's not 'strictly' Paleo but explains why. Chris Kresser is a must follow if you need to understand diet and lifestyle choices and how they impact upon your health.

A valuable manual for healthy living

A well researched, compelling read- written in an engaging style which is easily understood by lay readers, yet providing plenty of reference material in the accompanying online resource for those who wish to explore in greater detail. Far from being a dictatorial ode to the Paleo movement, this book tests the science behind it and builds a more sustainable approach to food, whilst also delving into the other pillars of good health such as stress reduction, exercise and sleep. Check out Chris Kresser's website if you haven't already, it's a wonderful resource for those wishing to take a healthier approach to their lifestyle.
