About the Author
Fed up with the overprescription of psychiatric drugs in the US and in her own life, she began investigating the medicinal value of outlawed and stigmatized plants and substances, like cannabis, psilocybin, and MDMA. Born in New York City and raised in New Jersey, she’s lost too many close friends to depression and the opioid epidemic not to share these stories with the world.
Michelle studied writing and psychology at Sarah Lawrence College before traveling extensively in Latin America and eventually settling down in southern Mexico. Find out more on her website: michellejanikian.com.

The value for me was to see this narrative in a single voice as a compendium. If one is still interested after reading her volume, she recommends that your research carry on.
Another value I experienced is that it is a wonderful guide to introduce Holding Space for another or others. Again, one would continue their education elsewhere, but so much background applies to the practice of holding space. And this finds application outside of the psilocybin experience.
Holding space for others is my new focus. And the number one tools, as she mentions, is self-love, grounding yourself, eliminating judgment, being a non-directive presence they can count on.
She says it all better without getting high-minded. I appreciated her voice, one I encountered first in an online article. I’ll just say that I bought this book in appreciation of that article and I find it worth it’s value on it’s own. So I still owe Michelle Janikian a GIANT THANK YOU!
The author writes with a refreshing lightness and candor. I’ve read a lot of psychedelic books over the past year and I found this one very easy to digest.
The author skims over the mystical and scientific themes that dominate a lot of the current literature. This instead is just a practical, helpful guide.
Mush love.

I never took any psichedelic. I will. I'm preparing for it. I did read for 20-30 hours on the internet about it. I mean, from scratch: curriosity about strange microdosing of an illicit drug to knowing with conviction that I do have to macrodose shrooms for personal growth and know the basis (set, setting, integration, ...) about it but want to know more. That's the kind of knowledge I had when I started reading this book. If you can relate to this I'm pretty damn sure you won't find this book empty! It kind of coalesced all what I read before and adds much more to it, including human warmth and ease to relate with the author. If you're in a similar place (knowledge wise) as I was, this book is really a must for you.
Some other critics I read complain that it's not very well written. Being mainly french speaking (but I read the english version) my opinion on the subject may not worth so much but I think I can grasp what they were talking about. First, I want to say that I really enjoy reading word virtuoso. Here, the author is not playing with words to create beautifully written sentences as great authors do, but as you and I can't. Maybe that's why I felt so connected to her. She was sharing her knowledge with me in my living room because I kindly asked her. We chat a bit, and she left telling me to give her a call anytime I need to. That never happened to me with great authors.
Briefly, I'm more than happy that I bought and read this book at this moment of my psichedelic journey.
