This book is predicated upon the idea that the reader, and everyone else, needs to change. I think it's easy to misunderstand this. So first, I'll explain how I see it. I just want to clarify that I don't think this book is solely for the person who has never been able to have any real meaning in life or is just plain miserable. I think it provides a toolkit that anyone can use.

Some people, perhaps most people, really are stuck in a rut. Maybe it's a toxic relationship, a job they hate, persistent negativity, or a seeming lack of discipline to get where you want to be. Some people aren't so much stuck in a rut as having a very hard time crawling out of it with any sort of speed. Still others aren't in a rut at all. They're on level ground but would like to reach a higher plane.

Some folks are continually adapting and handling whatever life throws at them. They learn from the past and plan for the future, but live in the now. I see myself as being in this category. I have been in the other categories, and it took several stages of transformation through several levels of maturity for me to get to the point where I choose to control how I feel rather than surrendering that to external forces. I can see other levels of maturity ahead of me, though.

I noticed that the book refers to Dr. Jennifer instead of Dr. Howard. As her surname is a common first name, someone reading "Dr. Howard" might wonder "Dr. Howard who?" this makes sense to me. So I'm going with that in this review.

Pick up any book about personal change, and it's almost certain the author is prescribing a particular methodology derived from a particular school of thought or a particular theme.

I've been living this book for several months now, since I've helped with the editing of this book. At first I found the information and wisdom Dr. Howard shares intriguing. In time I began to question myself, is this the life I want? What are my life-long issues and blocks that keep me from living a big life, from my big Self?

This book penetrated to the core for me, and it even affected my dreams. I've dreamt about the concepts in this book and connected to my essence in ways I couldn't have imagined. I've identified core wounds, and I've followed the meditations and guidance Dr. Howard offers and have begun to unravel blocks that have plagued me for years. I notice I'm not triggered in situations that would normally have me react strongly. I'm beginning to feel peace in tumultuous areas of my life, and profound shifts occurring that I don't believe would have occurred without this book. Even better, I notice my relationships growing more harmonious as I get my old, unresolved issues out of the way.

Read this book and follow Dr. Howard's guidance. You'll experience real change, growth, and awareness that will change your life for the better.

Is it synchronicity that led E. M. Forster to name his novel Howards End, known for its key phrase "Only connect!"? He saw the malaise of our civilization as disconnection--from ourselves, our fellow humans and our planet itself.

Yet we live as if we can exist apart from them, and this illusion has created a splintering of experience. This chasm between our interior and exterior worlds can be healed--become whole--when we restore these connections. When I first began therapy years ago, I thought of my unconscious as a "Pandora's Box." I know I am not the only one who believed this. I kept it tightly shut to prevent all hell from breaking loose, although occasionally a little squall escaped anyway.

No one told me about the peace, joy and safety beyond the storms, where the rainbow lies. I muscled through my tempests of fears and illusions because not doing so became more scary that digging deeper. In Your Ultimate Life... Dr. Howard continually cheers you on through your process, reassuring you rainbows do exist. I can second that encouragement.

Every exercise in Your Ultimate Life... enriches you. There is such a variety of what I call "flavors" in the meditations that you are sure to find some that speak to you deeply. Your Ultimate Life Plan: How to Deeply Transform Your Everyday Experience and Create Changes That Last by Dr. Jennifer Howard is a book that teaches people how to transform their lives by dealing forthrightly with their past experiences and the inner workings of their own identity.

Howard challenges each of us to deal forthrightly with our identity. In doing so, there are basic questions which must be resolved. For instance, think about whether or not you are industrious or lazy. Are you contemplative or do you react to people extemporaneously? These are the types of questions which define our identity, as well as the perceptions others have of us.

Howard believes that relationships and intimacy are the building blocks of existence. The author challenges us to analyze our relationships to determine the important elements, the stressers, repeating thoughts and the beliefs we tend to develop from repeated exposure to our friends, relatives and associates.

Howard explains that we have three selves. These are the real self consisting of our own notions of how the world works, our thoughts, feelings and experiences. The false self is who you think you should be or a product of the expectations of others. The true self is transpersonal or the embodiment of our spirit or union with a higher being or purpose.

Howard transcends the traditional view of the ego into a theoretical container holding our individuality, personal experiences, unresolved pain and the sense of "I - ness". Psychologists hold that the ego is made up of your past, your unique identification to your body, as well as personal inner thoughts and feelings.

Howard spends a lot of time developing the concept of our inner voice.
