This CD is hot. I don't think it's fair to compare Sunshine to any other artist because her own personality blasts through so hard on each track. Also I've seen her in person and the personality you hear on the tracks represent her true self. With that said the whole CD is full of soulful R&B energy. Sunshine's vocals are down to earth all the way through and remind you of what good R&B is and used to be. No derogatory comments about sex, men, or women just soulful intelligent lyrics and creative music.
The production is done very well also. Mike City did most of the tracks and his production is a clear view to the future direction of R&B. The whole CD has hard hitting drum lines that will surely make you want to dance with no question. The acoustic sounding bass, horns, and mellow piano chords have a very soulful sound sort of like Prince meets Roy Ayers with a little Donald Bird mixed in. The sound isn't dragged down with to many samples which makes each track unique in its own way. Mike City also did Carl Thomas's, "I wish I never meet her".
On the whole if you like good music without the kiddy nonsense you'll love this CD.

Well, it seems as her two radio releases are pretty much the best songs on her album. You can certainly tell this is her first album from her voice. She can sing, but she can't SANG. I think she would benefit greatly from a voice coach, someone who could refine her voice just a little......

Im sorry to say that I seem to be in the minority... I don't disagree that "HEARD IT ALL BEFORE" is a strong debut single but I was a little disappointed with the album as a whole. I would seriously look at India Arie and Jill Scott before this, alot more 'soulful'.

After hearing the song "Heard It All Before" on the radio for atleast 5 to 10 times, I didn't know that Sunshine Anderson was the singer until I saw the advertisement for her CD on BET. I liked the song a lot and I knew I would pick this CD up on it's release date. After listening to this CD, it sounds like Sunshine is a seasoned artist and I know that people that like r&b music will enjoy her debut CD. The CD starts off with the uptempo songs but gradually gives you the midtempo and slow songs as well. The majority of the production is handled by Mike City and all the music is produced by Beat Brokas' Ent. After you listen to "Your Woman" 2 or 3 times, you will be reminded of Mary J. Blige's "What's The 411" and Faith Evans' "Faith", in my opinion. That is not a problem though, because Sunshine does have a distinctive sound throughout the CD. Just as India Arie's "Acoustic Soul" demonstrates, it's nice to hear some down to earth, positive r&b music. My favorites so far include "Where Have You Been", "Lunch Or Dinner", "Last Night" w/Anthony Hamilton & Dolo Pichino, "Being Away" & "Crazy Love". Although all of her songs make the grade, I will give a slight advantage to the slow and midtempo songs on this CD. Overall, Sunshine Anderson has a nice debut on her hands and should have a brilliant future as a singer.

Assertive, decisive, and honest are the first words that come to mind when describing Sunshine Anderson's debut CD "Your Woman." Laced with the same Old School charm, banging beats, and no-nonsense aggression that's reminiscent of Mary J. Blige, the Charlotte, NC native radiates on tracks like "Better Off" and "Where Have You Been." Anderson's sista girl savvy animates many of the arrangements especially on the hit single "Heard It All Before" where she unabashedly stomps on a souring partnership. ("Got me 'bout to call my peeps and take it to the street," she huffs.) Even when her attitude is toned down, the singer's tempered, straightforward delivery is apparent: "Lunch Or Dinner" and "Letting Down My Guard" have a conversational feel and the brief skit "Vulnerability" could easily be a journal entry set to music. Noteworthy is "Crazy Love" which features a superb (and haunting) supporting vocal performance by smooth song siren Lalah Hathaway. As Anderson bemoans a dysfunctional relationship, Hathaway's distinctive sound hovers over the track as a "voice of reason" giving the song added psychological--and aural--power.
[Note: CD contains booklet with lyrics to all songs. Total playing time, 59 minutes, 27 seconds.]

This must be the era of tone deafness or people are just so desperate and so hungry for "real singers" that they will like just about anything. I gave this CD 2 stars because the production & songwriting were "OK". I went through some of the other reviews and was amazed to see people say that Sunshine was a "powerful vocalist" and such a "good singer" and was in the league of Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Jill Scott or even Mary J. and that's an insult to all of them.
The production for the most part is a mixture of smooth, laid back mid-tempo songs or thumpin contemporary, radio-ready R&B grooves. The right vocalist would have smoked most of the songs. However, we get Sunshine, who has no range AT ALL (she has less vocal range than even Mary J. Blige which is amazing) and she sings every single song the same way she sang "Heard It All Before" which is a decent track minus the man-bashing ghettoized lyrics ie. "Had to shut you DOWN". Same talky-sing-songy vocal stylings with almost NO vocal range at all. It's mind-boggling how she sings exactly the same way thru 15 tracks. I'm not surprised Macy Gray signed her because she has about the same vocal prowess as Macy, just not as funky.
Hopefull with her newfound success, Sunshine will pay for some vocal lessons. In the meantime, let's stop lauding mediocrity.
