I was introduced to "If You're Afraid of the Dark..." when I was in college, and thought it was a beautiful book then. Now I read it to my children, who love the thought that you can make happy endings out of cookie dough and listen to pebbles sing. Although I think that Remember the Night Rainbow is a bit better and not as melancholic as Add One More Star to the Night, they are both great at making you think differently about life's situations.

I was first led to this book when I was seeking a "linus" comfort book, years ago, to read during a very trying time in my life. When my "guardian angels" led me to this little book, I opened it and began to read it, right there in that little shop where first I was "told to go". As I read, I wept and felt such validation as a person in need who was being comforted and cared about, that I ordered a dozen. Since then, have ordered a dozen more and now this time, ten to share. Each one I've given was received as a reassurance of universal loving energy being aware and on duty to give the recipient the support prayed for and anticipated. I saw the ad on-line suggesting that the book was for children, but I do not agree. It is for the child in each of us, perhaps, but it is a book for adults who need to know that as a child of God (or creator name of your choice), we are truly loved and under our Creator's loving care at all times. I have a collection of stories from my experiences of giving this little book to many people.
It is a gift of love to me each time I read it. I think of it as the 67th book of my Bible.

I used to buy "If you're afraid of the dark..." in piles as gifts for everyone, all ages, any occasion. It's right up there in the surreal/delightful stratosphere with Harold and the Purple Crayon, and almost as powerful as my most favoritest book, Phantom Tollbooth.

Was stunned when it went out of print, along with his other fine mini-books - the showed up used for over $100! Shoulda bought a case... Anyway, this twin volume is well-printed, at a very reasonable price. Buy ten before it disappears again. (I did.)

This book really gets your imagination going. I have been reading it (the first one) since I was little and throughout the years I always get something different out of it as my out look changes with age.
