If you've read Doug's other works, you know what you're in for, buckle up because it's gonna be good.

If you're new to Doug Giles, how can I explain what you're in for?
Start with some Dennis Miller funny, wrap it around C.H. Spurgeon gravitas, and marinate it in the swagger of John Wayne, and you're starting - starting - to get the idea.

This book is for two kinds of people. 1) If you want to step it up, and live the kind of life that will actually matter in the light of eternity, this book is like a good coach, getting you to the top of your game. (2) If you're the kind of person with more sashay than swagger in your spiritual walk, this -- officially -- is your wake-up call.

What can you expect from his book?
You WILL laugh. Hard and often.
You WILL feel the sting when he sets up the historical ideal of how our Christian life ought to look, compared to today's realities.
You WILL WANT to man-up and live the kind of life that throws Hell into a panic, and live a life that will matter when you look back on it from eternity.
You WILL find real solutions to the mediocrity we are all tempted to settle for.

(Seriously, Doug's writing style is spit-out-your-coffee funny. You have been warned.)

First, this book is honest about what real life looks like. The hits we'll take, the enemies we'll make. If you wanna live a life that rattles some cages, expect to get snapped at.

Then it distills the Biblical solutions. How do you become the battle-hardened hero-type that can take the heat of the front lines? How was it done in times past, and how can you do it today?

Do you want to get in the fray? This book will help put you on course.
Too scared? Don't tap out just yet. This book is written to get you over that hurdle.

Read it, live it, and bring your bare-knuckled, winner-take-all faith into the fight where it'll do some good.

100 years from now, there will be a literary phrase called Dougie style. This book delivers 'no holds barred' advice for the believer who is facing life's trials and tribulations. It is not for the faint of heart or easily offended. If you like the Jesus who hung out with fishermen and went after charlatans in His Father's house with a whip then this is your book. If you would rather hold a candle and sing, "We are the World" then you will be easily offended, but there is hope for you. You need this book more than anybody. Man up, buy a copy and send a copy to your wimpy, walking wounded, emasculated, church friends. Doug delivers on the message that life is tough, Jesus promised trials, and He provides strength throughout them. And unlike some modern evangelicals, Doug actually provides scores of scripture references to back up his themes, not some I'm OK, you're OK, God wants you to be rich theology. (He mainly uses the MSG? version, but one can easily use his own Bible version) This book will be a blessing to you, and you might just LOL a few times along the way.

I like this tome very much because the author realizes that our daily walk with our Creator and Redeemer requires we remember we are not our own, but bought with a price; the bitter sufferings and death, His triumph over sin, death,Hell and Satin, His resurrection, The Pentecost, and His assention into haven witnessed by his disciples. I will not besmirch the holy name of my Redeemer, Lord, and His office of "The Christ" by calling myself "Christian". There is no way a man born into sin, who lived and lives a sinful life, while redeemed and maintained in Grace daily according to my pleading the Blood of Jesus, could ever call myself a name pretending to self righteousness like unto the sinless life, sacrifice, and triumphal accomplishment as He, who sits at the right hand of God The Father.

When Jesus preached his 30 year ministry, there was no Bible. There was no Church. There were missionary flocks only after Jesus assention. There were no Holy Wars, no Inquisition, No flawed teachings of "the church", no books intentionally left out of our KJV Bible, and no protestant reformation of Dr. Martin Luther. To know Jesus, you might have been the thief on the cross next to Jesus who plead, "Remember me when you come into paradise". And Jesus answered, "Today, thou shalt be with me in paradise." Or you might have been a prostitute like Mary Magdalene who washed her Lord's feet with expensive perfume and dried them with her hair. You might be like that rock of the present Catholic Church, Peter who denied Jesus three times before the cock crewed twice. You might be like Thomas who couldn't believe until he put his hand into Jesus side and pushed his finger through a nail hole in Jesus hand.

Doug Giles is one of my favorite columnists, so naturally I was excited to read his latest book. I was expecting to be entertained but I got a lot more than mere entertainment. This book addresses one of the most common Christian issues--suffering-- in a completely fresh, Biblically-backed way. Originally I had typed that Doug Giles' book is a must-read for any Christians currently experiencing hardship, but on second thought, this book is a must-read for ALL Christians! Period.

Doug Giles offers and accessible, entertaining, thought-provoking guidebook for enduring the trials life throws at us. Among the plethora of books on the topic of conquering trials, Giles' stands alone with it's cover to cover scripture mixed with down-right hilarious analysis and application. I started reading If You're Going Through Hell, Keep Going less than a week ago. I finished it within a day of opening the book--it was so entertaining I couldn't put it down. But aside from being incredibly funny, the author provides solid, doctrinally-sound teaching that is hard to come by these days. No Christian's library is complete without a copy of this book! This book also makes a great gift for non-Christians experiencing hard times. It presents the truth of Christ in an honest, understandable, welcoming way.
