How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

VERY IMPORTANT: make sure you are buying the vinyl record album, and NOT any other format. There is magic in this disc that only works on a turntable. Yes, magic, real magic.

This is an essential recording for those interested in Anderson and the early influences on her.

John Giono, William Burroughs, and Laurie Anderson; from a tour they did together. (This is studio, not live however.) I had the vinyl version of this. The Burroughs, Anderson, and Giono tracks were recorded in parallel; so I randomly got a different one each time I played it. This is an essential recording for those interested in Anderson and the early influences on her.

Dark but funny - he really seems to be enjoying himself here. The Anderson stuff is embryonic, working toward 'United States', and John Giorno's scream-poetry is ... well, speed can do terrible things to a person. Burroughs saves the project.
This was originally (1981) a double LP with a cool gimmick. They each got one side, and the extra side was a TRIPLE GROOVE. It looked normal, but depending where the needle fell you got Anderson, Burroughs, or Giorno for five minutes.
Unfortunately this CD omits a really excellent Burroughs track: 'The Do-Rights'. It was restored for the 1998 box set on Giorno Poetry Systems, still available here: The Best Of William Burroughs: From Giorno Poetry Systems

I owned this, then lost this and 2000 other vinyl recordings in a flood. A couple funny Burroughs recordings, and a very original editing technique on Giorno recordings. Side 4 had a triple grove, one grove for each artist. My notes do not indicate what the inner grove etching said, might not have had any. If anyone has a copy I would love to know what the etchings said.

I thought this CD was a good representation of '80s avant garde. I'm familiar with Burroughs and Anderson. Giorno was new to me and I liked his work too.
I'm only writing this because unless you're lucky
you may need it
you may want it
but you can't have it.
multi grooves are out of print
and so is this CD.
Let's face it, Burroughs' work is a blast, wherever you can get it.

Get a copy of this recording! I have a tape of the record that I have preserved on CD-R. I have copied that CD-R a number of times to assure I will not be without this recording. Giorno is great with his delayed effects. Too bad it is out of print. Laurie Anderson is weird as ever. But my favorite part is the William Burroughs recitals. His dark, almost gory stories of death and killing are never overstated and always has a million punchlines. You can feel that he is "on the nod", I can imagine how many breaks he took to go recharge! Get this recording, you will not be disappointed.

Priceless piece of performance and poetic experience. I saw Laurie and John in soho mid 70s and it changed my life.
