First comes death, then comes life. And a lot of loss. Grief for the loss of beautiful love, a giving soul. It's also profound its loss of self.
Niall lovedbdeeply, this man who gave his entire being to saving lives. Oliver was a gifted surgeon who worked with Doctors Without Borders, living and working under the most inhumane of conditions. He fell in love with the beautiful nurse whose talent and soul mirrored in. With his death came sigil I can't loss. Niall had no idea who she was without her otherbhalf. She existed, retreating into memories of him, not feeling anything but emptiness, loneliness.
Lachlan, "Lock", has know he would likely not live to see his 30th birthday. His "life" consists of death defying activities, partying and women. He knows he's dying, every day a day closer to death, tempting fate with his lifestyle. He keeps everyone at a distance, not caring too much, so as to protect both himself and others from the pain of his inevitable death. His thirty-fifth birthday is the scene of his death.
Lock awakens, confused, and learns he is alive and has a healthy new heart beating in his chest. Lock has never been anything and he's angry and lost. He embarks on a journey to meet the family of his donor, having used whatever he has in his arsenal, to secure the name of the donor and their loved ones. He meets a friend on his journey, who tags along and gives his companionship and love.
He finds her at rock bottom. They come together anger and confusion and loss bubbling over. Need is a living, breathing thing driving them on. Inexplicable need. They are doomed, Ollie's heart being the ticking time bomb in this strange, new relationship.
Niall awakens, alive, feeling, confused and angry. Lock runs, feeling all those same things. Lock cannot give anyone what he does not have. Himself. He has this new life. Who is he? What can he do or be? How can he be a man?
Fate, in the form of a natural disaster puts them in the height of danger, forcing them to works alongside each other to save the lives of many. Exhausted but alive, they say goodbye.
Need. To find out who he is. Need. To find her again. Need. To feel love, give love. Need. Only Niall. Need.
Yours was painfully beautiful.
Helping others is a way of life for Niall and her husband Ollie. Both travel the world in dangerous countries helping those that cannot help themselves. Doctors Without Borders is the center of their lives and the focus of their world. Ollie is a doctor and Niall is the nurse right by his side. A partnership that extends from heart ache from the tragedy they view, to the blissful comfort they find in one another’s arms.
Nothing could have prepared Niall for the way she would tragically loose Ollie. Just as he lived his life by helping others, Ollie’s death was another way for the doctor to ’give back’. As an organ donor, Ollie’s various organs went to those who desperately needed transplants. A reminder of the selfless acts that Niall’s beloved husband bestowed upon others. To feel closer to her beloved husband, Niall moves back to his hometown in Oklahoma. Thus her pattern of not really living begins…..working, eating, and sleeping. A former sliver of the life Niall once lived.
Lachlan never imagined waking up ever again. All those years spent knowing that his time on this earth was limited. Imagine the shock of ’coming back’ from the brink of death only to discover that another man’s heart is beating in his chest. A fact that haunts Lachlan about his place in the world. Curiosity over the identity of the donor that saved his life begins to overwhelm Lachlan. With limited information, Lachlan sets out to discover more about the mystery surrounding the heart now beating within his chest. A quest that will lead him in a direction he never expected to take…..
What a wonderful and thought provoking love story. I have to be honest….I had to put off reading Yours when it first released. Usually I am all over a story written by Jasinda Wilder. This time I paused because Yours came out just days after my own husband had a heart attack out of the blue, died for a while, and the doctors told me they didn’t know if he ’would stay with us’. So after reading the blurb and having such raw emotion going on in my life, I knew I couldn’t read a book like this that soon after almost losing my own husband for good.
Yours is definitely is an emotional journey. One of loss, love, and the anguish of letting go of the one you love. A beautiful testament to honoring a love of a lifetime, and moving one when life deals a difficult hand. A must read for any romance reader!!
Lachlan Montgomery is a playboy. He's spent most of his life just having fun and living for the moment, because this moment could be his last. He was born with the same condition as his father and his grandfather, and due to his heart, he probably won't make it past 31. Niall James is a nurse with a medical relief agency that helps with natural disasters and things overseas. Her husband Oliver is a surgeon and he's her world.
One day changes all three of their lives. One moment. There is an accident and Oliver doesn't make it. Niall has lost the love of her life, and Lock comes out of it with a new heart. Lock doesn't know how to feel about this. He never in his wildest dreams thought he would be a candidate for a transplant. He feels like he has to meet Niall. Things get a bit complicated from there.
Niall and Lock's relationship started out on rocky ground. Both of them were on the way to a second chance. A second chance at love for Niall and a second chance at life in general for Lock. I loved that Niall was a nurse and that the book had a lot of medical stuff in it. That's my field so I always find it interesting. There were a few things that weren't accurate, and while most people won't notice, I did. Still, it wasn't enough to take away from my enjoyment. If you enjoy emotional second chance romances, give this one a go!
