Book had grammatical errors, some questionable semantics, and poor formatting. But intriguing and fun to share with other people.
This is an excellent book on the theory of personality types. It is extensively detailed, broken down into digestible categories. My friend was asking what an extrovert is and how do I know which one I am and I couldn't explain it to him; I only knew that we were different. With this book you will be able to explain in clear words what differences there are between people. I'm an educated individual and I believe in keeping an open mind about theories that can be revolutionary. Socionics is the only way to have good relationships.
The descriptions of dichotomies and information elements are ok, if a little exaggerated and occasionally imprecise.
More concerning, however, are the authors' outrageous claims about visual identification. "You will be able to instantly see Psychological Types.", they say. But it takes a long time to become familiar with socionics, let alone from reading a book. Their method of visual identification is simply a joke (see p.53), and is NOT accepted by most socionics experts. In fact, the authors are unknown in the socionics community.
Finally, the type list in the back is not all that good. I know little about most of the celebrities listed, but as for the ones I do know, the typings seem strange and mostly incorrect. If the authors are using the prescribed form of visual identification, this is not much of a surprise. Note also that, contrary to the authors' claims, most socionics experts believe in an approximately even type distribution (see p.75). I might also note that only 11.48% of the female population* (and 7.22% for males) has a chance in hell of finding their "Best match", if the authors are to be believed. Thankfully, I know this from experience to be false.
If you want to learn socionics, there are a few very good socionics websites out there, such as wikisocion.org and socionics.us. Please don't waste your money on this book.
*A generous estimate: "C1 probability" at least 0.5%
Socionics is a re-hash of the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), an instrument that has been the subject of much controversy as to whether it actually does what it claims. Developed in the early 1940s, it was used during World War II to select troops for various duties, launching it into the public consciousness. It has been the interest of various persons who have tried to package it in such a manner that the average person can understand it, without much success.
This particular version of the MBTI uses geometric shapes to try to "tag" the various personality types. This only adds confusion to the mix as the types are basically incomprehensible to the average person to begin with.
As for the MBTI, the best of the bunch is Kiersey's **Please Understand Me II**.
Socionics is of interest only to Psychology students. The person who is trying to understand other people would do better to look elsewhere.
