Middling collection

There are some pretty good lesser-known Christmas recordings here; I found particular interest in an instrumental of "The Chipmunk Song" by John Scofield. It's a little bit uneven, but a good release overall. Not as good as the covergirl's legs though.

"Yule Struttin': A Blue Note Christmas" is an eclectic compilation of Christmas songs by various Blue Note jazz artists from Chet Baker to Bobby Watson. Of particular interest are the two versions of Thelonius Monk's "A Merrier Christmas" the first by Benny Green playing solo piano and the second a vocal rendition by Dianne Reeves accompanied by David Torkanowsky on piano. The Dexter Gordon Quartet's version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is another highlight in an enjoyable collection. Highly recommended for jazz fans at Christmas time.

Mellow Christmas jazz album. Perhaps, at times, a little too mellow for my taste. A good one to mix in with your other, more traditional, Christmas favorites.
