I started the process all over again, with no result.
Fed up, I returned the product to Amazon and received an exchange for another unit. I then received an email from Yuneec asking me if I would take a survey regarding customer satisfaction. My initial case was never understood, let alone resolved, but they wanted me to take a survey as if it had been resolved. Unreal.
The new one arrived but when I opened the box, there were signs it had been previously opened or even used. There were marks on the controller and the orange tape on the accessories box was bent up and worn, as if it had been used several times. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I charged the battery, tested the camera and took it to some open space to test. After reading the directions multiple times and after watching multiple videos, the unit lifted off of the ground, made it about twenty or so feet in the air, twenty feet forward, and then came straight back down again. There was no more flying after that.
In addition to having to return this unit as well, I also had to return a foam case/backpack I got for it, minus a 20% restocking fee. Ouch. Worst of all, I was unable to get the shots I wanted. I have seen that this product has many good reviews, so you should probably take that into account. It's possible that I got two lemons in a row, who knows. I dislike giving a negative review because I want companies to succeed, but on the other hand I think customers should be helped in making informed decisions. So there it is. Choose wisely.
He was right. I've flown one other, non-GPS drone before, once. The wind caught it and threw it into a gravel pit and after 45 minutes of searching, I new I wanted to upgrade.
I was a bit worried wondering if I'd made the wrong decision by not paying for the integrated 4k Camera. Since I already had a 4k GoPro, I bought this drone with some trepidation.
First off, it flies perfectly. My friend was right -- a 6 year old could fly this. It does EXACTLY what you tell it to, and holds a position perfectly at any height. The gimbal works great too, and the groPro video is steady and extremely clear.
The one complaint I'd heard is that the gimbal will show propellers in your shots, which is true if you angle it up all the way. Its an easy adjustment --- just keep your camera angled down a tick, and don't point it all the way up. Thats maybe the only complaint I have about this thing not being absolutely perfect. Since I figured that trick out, its never once been a problem.
It has a few different flying modes, and I highly suggest getting the USB wifi stick --- I paid about 30 dollars for mine, and it lets you practice on your computer with your handheld remote. Its helped me dial in my flying, and worth every penny.
The other complaint was you do have to turn on your GoPro before you take off, and you can't take pictures from the remote. To me, that's a non issue. I'm filming in 4k, so I can edit my video and grab any snapshot I want.
5 stars. I love this thing, and I use it like crazy. Well made, flies like a dream and worth the money.
