ZAGG Slim Book Reviews
"The keyboard on the Zagg Slim Book is one of the best we've tested on a keyboard case so far. It has excellent, well-spaced, solid keys that are all in their rightful, familiar place, and they have springy feedback and satisfying travel." -- PC Mag Editor's Choice Award.
"In just a short while, the ZAGG Slim Book has become my favorite keyboard for use with the iPad Air. It doesn't lack a feature I consider desirable, and it serves my every need. There is not a single thing I would change as ZAGG has gotten it just right. This makes the Slim Book deserve the rare rating of a perfect 10." -- James Kendrick for Mobile News, ZDNet Review.

I purchased my case in December 2015 from a different site (wasn't available on Amazon yet). My observations are based on daily use of this case including frequently opening/closing the case, changing screen positions for my tasks, and carrying this with me pretty much everywhere I go.
By George, I think they finally got it. The back cover for the tablet is MUCH thicker than it was on the previous generations of this case - at least twice as thick as before. The area where the hinge connects to has been properly reinforced this time. The hinge works very smoothly when opening and closing the case and shows no signs of weakening or cracking after nearly 2 months of daily use. Previous generations of this case (iPad Air and Air 2, etc.) suffered from a fatal design flaw that resulted in dismal performance. The case also works well with a screen protector on your tablet (I have a ballistic glass screen protector on mine).
As always, the keyboard is very well made and offers excellent functionality including dedicated keys for the tablet and backlit keys with 7 color choices and 3 levels of brightness. The keyboard has auto on/off and there is a power button so that you can turn it off manually if needed. It also wakes/sleeps the iPad. The keyboard base provides excellent stability for the tablet and it has been very comfortable to use in my lap while on the couch or on a bus on my way to work.
Battery life and connectivity have been excellent so far. The keyboard is simple to pair with the tablet and can also be paired with up to 2 other devices in addition to the iPad Pro. I have never had the keyboard connection drop off while in use. There is a keyboard function that allows you to keep track of the the battery life and I have not had to charge the keyboard since I charged it when I initially received it in December.
Finally, the weight. The tablet and keyboard together weigh about the same as my MacBook Air (mid-2013 model). It definitely adds some weight but I think it is worth the trade off to get the flexibility that this case offers for my iPad Pro. I can position the screen to use the keyboard (like a laptop) with multiple screen angles (just like you can do with your laptop). I have no difficulty floating between using the keyboard and touching the tablet screen as needed. I can flip the screen around for game playing and video watching or lay it flat over the keyboard to use as a tablet. Lastly, when I really want to lighten it up I can just detach the keyboard completly though this position does have one draw back. The back of the tablet is protected no matter what but without the keyboard the screen of the iPad is left uncovered and the case covering the back of the iPad tablet is not smart cover compatible.
I considered both the Apple Smart Keyboard and the Logitech Create keyboard before buying the Zagg (was able to see the Logitech and Apple keyboards first had before making my decision). The Apple keyboard, while light and smart connector compatible, lacks the backlit keys that I prefer and with only 2 screen positions feels much too limited. I did not feel that it would be as stable in my lap as i like. The Logitech keyboard also has a limited screen position range, is heavy, and does not allow you to detach the keyboard without having to completly remove the tablet from the keyboard case.
All I can say is that I LOVE this case! The feel of my iPad Pro in it is like I have a touch screen Mac. It's not light. It actually weighs about 4 pounds after the case is installed, but it's a comfortable weight and doesn't feel much different than carrying around a Macbook.
The keyboard case is in two pieces. There's a back plastic piece that snaps on to the iPad Pro, and then the keyboard which is aluminum. When the back piece is on you can connect the iPad Pro to the keyboard forwards and backwards which gives lots of flexibility in how you use the case.
In normal front facing installation you turn the iPad Pro into a laptop. The keyboard is backlit and you can choose from several different colors for the lighting (see attached images). The keyboard is responsive and smart enough that if you start typing before it's reconnected it remembers what you typed and fills it in so you don't miss a beat. You also have the added benefit of a hinged connection, this allows use of the iPad Pro screen at many angles verses the 1 fixed angle you typically get with other keyboards. The sleep/wake function is also built in so your iPad goes to sleep when you close the case and wakes up upon opening.
In back facing installation you can use your keyboard as a stand so that you can watch movies or whatever without the keyboard being in sight. You can also fold the iPad down so that it's laying on top of the keyboard but the screen is still accessible for use.
You can also easily pop off the iPad Pro and leave the keyboard behind which makes this keyboard/case combo absolutely perfect for my uses.
The quality of the build of this case is outstanding. I often take my iPad Pro with me to work, and most of my co-workers are Mac users. They all comment on this case as they wonder why I'm touching the display of my "Mac". It's a real show stopper when they realize it's actually my iPad Pro. The aluminum keyboard is so well built and so similar to my Mac that my brain often sends my hand searching for the non-existant trackpad.
Battery life is amazing. It's rated for a year of use on one charge and as I've only had it a month it will be a while before I have to charge it up.
I'm glad I waited to buy this keyboard for my iPad Pro. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a keyboard that is substantial and gives the iPad Pro just a little more of a laptop feel while retaining the flexibility an iPad demands.
