Just what I was looking for - Charges my Kindle fire!

I now have several techy items that need recharging frequently when I travel, so I have a number of these small backup battery devices. You charge them before you leave home, then if you run out of juice you can quicky keep the device going until you can get to a charging outlet. The problem is, none of these devices worked for my Kindle Fire - the battery is much larger than my backup devices could handle. And with all of the use the Kindle gets, I find I frequently have to recharge. Well, the Kindle Fire battery is rated at 1800mAh, so the 6,000 mAh Sparq is perfect. I had a hard time justifying the $99 list price (1/2 the price of the Kindle!!) but I finally found it on sale on Amazon for $44, and thats a steal. It is solid, well made, and not too heavy. I am very pleased, and highly recommend it.

HOLD THE PHONE! After using this device several times, I have realized it does not work very well. It charges the Kindle Fire only if the Sparq is fully topped up (all four lights show, just unplugged from wall), but it drains quickly and does not completely charge a depleted Kindle battery. Worse, if its sitting on the shelf, and charge level shows 3 lights (75%), IT DOES NOT CHARGE the Kindle AT ALL.

There is a possibility that mine is defective, so I have asked Zagg for an exchange ONLY IF THEY HAVE TESTED THIS WITH KINDLE FIRE. I suspect they have not tested it. Otherwise, I have asked for a refund. Hopefully someone will read this review before purchasing.

2/13/12 - I have arranged for n return authorization and full refund. To be clear, this unit DOES work, it just does not work for the Kindle Fire (and maybe other large tablets too).

Very Nice, but very heavy

This is an UPDATE: This product worked as advertised for about 3 weeks and then it never lived up that standard again. The first thing that happened is that it stopped keeping a charge. So I had to keep it plugged in all the time. Then when I would use it to power up my phone it would only take it to about 50%. I have an Iphone 4. And when the Sharq is plugged in and I plug the Iphone into the Sharq at the same time, the Iphone will no recognize it. So now I have to carry even more cables in my bag. The Sharq has moved in a storage drawer and that is where it will stay.

Do not try to carry this in your pocket. It is too big and too heavy. That said, this is a work horse of a battery. At this point it has replaced my normal charger and it allows me, in the middle of class, to take it out of my backpack, plug my computer in, and keep going. My longest class is 1 hour and 50 minutes. The other day I was down to 15% on my Macbook pro. I plugged in my Sparq and an hour later I was recharged past 50%. That night, without recharging the Sparq I plugged in my Iphone and was able to get it from 10% to 80% without depleting the Sparq and without being tied to an electrical outlet. So worth the purchase. losses 1 star for not being honest about its portability. But I am very happy with it.

I travel a lot and have every charging device known to man.
This device looked ideal: Large capacity, no fancy charger, self contained etc.
Build quality mediocre...USB port was misaligned...
However, the biggest flaw was in it's primary ability to act as a seperate charger.
It wouldn't hold charge for more than a day or two.
So, if you charged it before setting off you may be ok for the first day.
I don't use it or carry it.
It does not work and is a waste of time.
I didn't waste my time trying to get reimbursed....so no comment on customer service.

Stopped working

I received the item very promptly in late April 2013 and used the device to keep my GoPro batterys and mobile telephone charged during a cross country motorcycle ride. After returing in early May, I used the device a few times a few times for the GoPro while away from traditional charging devices.

While preparing for a two day swiftwater rescue class, I checked the device to see how much charge was left and discovered it was dead. I plugged it into several wall sockets only to discover it is really dead. It will not charge, nor hold a charge.

Really disappointed since I did not even get four months of use form the device. I guess I will have to depend on my dependable Mophie which unfortunately only has one USB port.

Working great at first

After using this for a while the battery life died off quick. our iProducts are draining it almost the whole way for just one charge.

I went onto Zagg's website and I was able to register it and get a free replacement with out any hassle. I have done this with the screen savers too.
So for now 3 stars. After I get the replacement hopefully it will last longer, if so I will up the stars.

If you're new to buying power banks, get this one, it was my first power bank. It's very easy to use and very reliable. You'll probably be like me though, this thing is like 400mah, and it's not enough, you'll soon be moving on to the other ones here on amazon, i currently got a 16,000mah one that can charge laptops and stuff, moving on to a 36,000mah one.

This product has some design flaws that make it a poor choice for me. One is that you cannot determine whether the unit is completely charged without pressing a button. Additionally, you have no idea how much power remains during use without pressing the same button. And, in my case, one of the two unit that I purchased will not fully charge. There a multiple USB charging/power ports, but the one that is optimized for iDevices is not as clearly marked as I would like. Finally, the unit seems to require an excessive amount of time to charge.

It is NOT on my recommend list.

I received my zagg charger in a timely manner. My daughter saw it and loved it. I gave it to her and ordered one more!!! That one also came in a timely manner. The only thing it doesn't come with instructions and I don't know what the four lights mean. But overall I like the zagg charger!!

Didn't do as advertised for iPad3

Purchased two of these units as back-up pwr for our company's iPad3. Zagg advertised that the sparq would charge the iPad from 0% to 60%. I was only able to get it to charge to 15% and then, after being connected for 1+45hours, the Zagg was completely drained.

I was using the iPad while charging, but still, 15% is far below the stated 60% Zagg promised.

We'll keep the Zaggs, as the iPads are used on our aircraft and I was looking for something to keep a charge in the event of a total aircraft electrical failure in flight...this will power the iPads until we land, but certainly not to 60%.
