If you're doing a budget build or just want a card you can drop into an off the shelf i5 tower and play most games without fighting a new power supply and a dozen other issues it's the best bang for your buck.
I *love* that this is half the size and far lower power requirement than prior high-power cards. New technology-- new benefits! This card can be used in systems without having to buy a new power supply to handle it. That's a very nice bonus.
While I wish I had gone with EVGA out of brand loyalty, I highly recommend this Zotac 1050 TI, it delivers power on a budget and I've seen benchmarks where a physics card such as this can improve frame rates in games by 10-20% in many cases. If you're on the fence, this is a great value and will save you money for the next 1080+ series, instead of trying to balance power and economy; this little guy delivers both.
Pros: Very small card. The Noctura heatsink dwarfs it! Looked for this form factor for future build even though it is in a Riotoro CR1080 case on a full ATX board. This will eventually go and downsize to mini-itx. Since it uses PCIE power, another point for future build. Ran some benchmarks and it performs as expected. I can run the limited gaming fine at full resolution and framerates.
Con: Install is not good at all! The unit it replaces was a GeForce 650TI(1Gig), so should have been as easy install, but NOOOOOOO. Black screen after the BIOS. Hmmm. The limited instruction pamphlet (one little paper stating to go to geforce to download the drivers..:p) is pretty useless when you run into problems. So, replace it with the 650ti and computer booted again. Hmmm. Removed all the current drivers, put the 1050ti back in and black screen. Long story short, eventually got it to work and instructions are below for others to follow if you run into problems. zuse at your own risk..It may work for you, it may not. Fans are small and a little high wine is expected, so not a con. System still pretty quiet.
Instructions for my system:
1. With old card still in, and if you have on-board graphics, go into bios and set to use the on board graphics.
2. Shut down, remove the old card and hook up video to on-board.
3. Put in the 1050ti, but do not hook the video up to it.
4. Boot the computer go to geforce.com and download the drivers. I could not get the latest drivers to work, so used the 385.69.
5. Run the program and let it find the card and install the drivers.
6, Shut down and hook video to 1050ti and hope it works. If not, well, you are on your own.
My system: I7-3770 (nonK.. fast enough), Gigabyte Z77 Ds3h, 16G Ram, Samsung 850 EVO 128G(Win10), MSata 120(Linux Mint), 500G WD Black 7200, Riotoro CR1080 case with 650W PSU(way overkill now). Two 120 front case fans and one 80mm rear, Noctura NH-C14S with 120mm fan with idle temp at 32C.
Would have gave it 5 stars, but when you run into install problems, it will set most off. I have quite a bit of experience in building systems and I try all things to get something to work before I send it back. Overall, not a bad card and maybe it would have work better on newer motherboard. I can't try it on my other system due to case not having any vid card slots(mini-itx with small In-Win case.
As for this gpu specifically, zotac's single fan keeps the card pretty cool, highest i've seen it is about 40c, but that's because room temp is probably around 21c - 25c and I was playing a game. I was also able to get a solid overclock (imo) with this card as well. All in all, it's cheaper than the other 1050's and it does its job well.
