Since I also use a quiet power supply, a fanless video card, and a Solid State Drive, pretty much all I hear from my computer now is the soft, low-pitched hum of the Zalman. But it's below the threshold of bothersome.
My subliminal daily rage is gone. Well worth $23.
It sure is quiet, and cools like crazy.
My motherboard has an AMD (AM3+) type socket, so all I had to do was strap it in there. So if you are a sensible person who bought a superior AMD chip, you are already one step ahead.
I'm going to go ahead and find a similar item with the 4 pins and hang on to this one for another PC down the road.
- After I replaced the Power supply the noise went down a bit but I could still hear the PC in the room.
- When I replaced the CPU Fan the system become so quiet that initially I wasn't sure if I had powered the system at all.
- I have ATX Mid-Tower and now I'm not even sure if the system is working at all if I don't see the Power LED.
- I have Pentium 4 with "Socket 775 CPU" and the only small drawback was that I had to purchase and install additional bracket (ZM-CS1). The bracket didn't fit the motherboard opening (ECS 848P-A7) so I end up attaching the bracket with only 3 screws instead of 4. Be aware that because the screws for the bracket are installed around the processor from the bottom side of the motherboard you have to take out all cards and disconnect all other components (HD/CD/DVD/..) first.
- 2-nd small issue was that the bracket 2 screw holes didn't match well the FAN screw opening and I had to play a while until I was able to put the 2 screws
- after this small installation difficulties my Desktop PC is now MORE SILENT than my Dell Laptop.
-> Definitely Silent Solution which I highly recommend
DO NOT BUY please.
I replaced the stock intel fan with this and also upgraded my powersupply at the same time, the drop in noise has been unbelievable...the pci slot cooler I had is louder than this fan and the new PSU combined. On silent mode this thing is actually silent and yet still keeps the cpu cooler than the stock intel fan did.
The one thing other reviews have noted but you can't fully appreciate 'till you get it in your hand, it's FREAKING HUGE. This is *two pounds* of copper people, you know those big cappucino mugs you see? it's definately larger than that, the pictures are misleading. You think I'm joking? buy it, you'll see! It's a monster but it's a cold *stealthy* monster.
For the record, it's also looks awesome in a windowed case. If you have the room by all means do it --it's two pounds of copper!
Even tho all links were for the 7000B, i don't think these company's are looking that closely at the differences. I'm getting a bit fed up with trying to get this item. I was lery about ordering a 3rd but took the dive figuring 3rd time was a charm. Well its not. It seems every company claming to sell this at the time of review, is only looking at the picture and doesnt give a shit about what they are really selling, so long as it looks the same..
Don buy this from here. Im fairly confident none of the places that are calming to sell this, are selling the correct on, but instead just trying to get more face time and get rid of units, and hoping people will be dumb enough to not know the difference.
Was going to put it on a Socket 478 P3 to replace a stock fan/heatsink...but decided to wait till I build another PC & put it on that one in the future. As many have suggested...this is a huge fan/heatsink...but being from Zalman...shouldn't have any problems with overheating.
