Product Description

"The A2-DX provides the strongest ankle support for moderate to severe ankle sprains. The ankle brace is made with i-Fit and a-Fit technology for an anatomically (right & left) correct fit. The Exo-Grid (Xternal) is a dual exterior molded support structure with Grip Tech (anti-migration), that prevents the ankle from rolling inward (inversion) and outward (eversion). The Exo-Grid (Xternal), along with the anchor strap, assists in preventing high ankle sprains by reducing the separation of the two lower leg bones where the ankle meets. The X- Strap Stabilizers with Grip Tech located underneath prevents the foot from shifting forward. Ideal for preventative application and/or for supportive use after moderate or severe medial, lateral, and high ankle sprains. This is a preferred option for many basketball and volleyball players. On average it can cost an individual at least twice as much for tape vs bracing for a season. The A2-DX is trusted to protect the ankles of elite athletes such as Stephen Curry. "

I'm 6'9" 235 lbs and have been playing basketball professionally overseas for 6 years. I've been through my share of tweaks, sprains, and surgeries throughout my career and believe I have a valid perspective on this topic. Now, here is the thing about ankle braces and tape that a lot of people don't seem to realize. NOTHING will give you full or complete prevention of an ankle sprain, NOTHING. Don't expect to buy this brace and think that you'll never roll your ankle again. If you land on it, twist it wrong or hard enough it's going to sprain. It does not matter If you have it professionally taped or wear this brace, an ASO brace, McDavid, Aircast, if you land on it hard enough, it will go.

That being said... there are real minor protection and prevention qualities of taping and/or braces. I've been in this game a long time and have tried everything there is. When it comes to taping, there is a variety of brands out there, some MUCH MUCH better than others and given the choice on game day with quality tape, i'm going to have my ankles taped. If you do not have access to quality tape and someone who knows how to tape an ankle properly, this brace is a great option. The only brace i've come across that has comparable protection is an Air Cast brace. But that is simply too bulky for me to wear.

The A2-DX is without question the most supportive, yet comfortable brace I've ever worn. I know there are others out there that will feel better on foot, (mcdavid and aso) but in terms of Support/Prevention and Comfort. This is the best brace I've ever worn. I tried this product simply because Steph Curry wears them. Reason being, If a million dollar athlete with chronic ankle issues trust his personal health and safety to a product he actually wears on court, it must be a quality product. Turns out, it really is.

I've been wearing this as a precaution since I already have a torn a ligament in my ankle before and it took some time to heal. I heard about this product from Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors. He posted it on facebook when someone ask how he is protecting his surgically repaired ankles. I bought this in late 2013 after hearing that he was using this. But only last night was when I able to test the effectiveness of this product. 16 point game with only 2 points to go, tied between 2 teams. Adrenaline was rushing and I went for a rebound and landed on someone's foot. I felt my ankle twist and my mind was getting ready for the pain to follow next. Weirdly I remember the pain from my last severe ankle injury and was expecting the same pain again. But when the pain finally hit, the pain was not that much at all. The ankle brace did it's work, and it did not allow my ankle to twist all the way which explains the minimal pain and prevented my ankle from getting seriously re-injured again. (Yes my ankle did get stretch a little bit and was uncomfortable for about a minute or two, but afterwards it went away. As I'm typing this review 14 hours after the incident, I don't feel any discomfort on my ankle at all).

I was able to regain balance with my other foot, walked off, and tested if there's any pain on my other ankle. After realizing that they were ok, I then started running on to play defense. Needless to say we won the game and was able to continue on and play 4 more games last night and will be playing again tonight!

Although I'm not that tall, I'm not a skinny basketball player either. This product was able to hold the stress on my 185 lbs weight. It worked and prevented me from another ankle injury that can sideline me again for 6-8 months! I suggest all players to wear this just as a precaution. But if you already sustained an injury like I did, this product is a must have!
