Review

4.0 out of 5 starsHeartbreaking yet Hopeful

"Zebi's Dream" tells the story of a young girl who lives in poverty yet dreams of a better life. While other children attend school, Zebi spends her days begging on the streets with her mother and baby brother. The sight of the local school fills her with hope, despite her mother's disapproval.

This story, while short, was nicely written. I admired Zebi who didn't give up in the face of seemingly impossible odds and even taught herself to read. The kindness some of the other characters showed her left me with an overall hopeful feeling.

From the Author

I have grown up in an Asian country and know first hand the plight of little girls and boys who live on the streets of large cities.  Their hollow eyes reflect deprivation, thirst for what everyone else seems to enjoy, confusion and sadness.  I have written the story of Zebi to raise awareness that to help poor children, one has to look beyond material donations towards education via schools and books.
