Top customer reviews
I don't write very often not is my penmanship all that great, but when I do, I need my zebra pens. Have been using these for 4+ years now and keep coming back.
Also learned how to spin the pens around my finger, nice little trick. Has a very good weight for that. Also feel like those who use Zebra pens have a little bit of a "private cool club" around them. When I see someone using these pens I always go out of my way to point it out and it is like a small community. And it's a pen. I mean come on.
-The ink lasts a long time. I got a dual pack for Christmas 2011 and use them interchangeably. I'm just to the point where the ink is about out. So for me one cartridge lasts about 6-8 months.
-Refills are easy to find. This pen is sold in most major stores, so if you need an emergency refill, you don't need to pay big $$$ for shipping.
-The pen is durable. I go out industrial environments all the time. This pen has been banged against a lot of steel and doesn't really have dings to speak of.
-The cartridges flow well and don't jam up. Some other pens i've had work well for a while, then the ink stops flowing well even though it's clearly half full. I've had 0 problems with that for these pens.
-The clip is well built. I like to snap the clip often. It's my OCD habit when i'm thinking. Plastic pens and even some metal ones will eventually break off from fatigue. This one has been fine, and shows no signs of getting worse.
-The grip is comfortable. It's plastic, not rubber, which i actually like. Rubber ones tend to absorb skin oils and get gross over time. Plastic does not. And it's contoured, so sweaty hands don't slip.
-The pen comes apart easily. Doesn't take vise grips. Just screws apart.
-Gives a satisfying click when you depress the plunger.
-The printing comes off after a while. Where it used to say ZEBRA F-301, it now says ZEB 01. Not a big deal, but it's really the only thing i could find fault with.
Update 3/7/14: Found two more slight faults.
1) When used in extreme heat, the cartridge can explode. I did some work in a hot room with this pen (roughly 120F). The pen was in my pocket and it exploded. The pen body kept the ink from getting on my pants, but i had to throw it out. Sad day. Not deducting any starts for that.
2) The metal cap on the business end is most definitely not steel. It's some other material with a shiny finish. After a year and a half of heavy use, it's starting to come off a little. What was once shiny and steel-looking is now dull and has a slight orange hue. Again, i'm not deducting any stars because for the price i would expect something like this. The pen still writes great and overall looks good.
I also feel that it's worth noting that after 1.5 years the clip is still firmly in place and none of the screwed fittings have stripped out. Like i said i like to snap and bend the clip a lot, and you can't tell i do that whatsoever. I also take the pen apart a lot when i'm just keeping my hands busy. This pen is well built.
The pen is really smooth when writing. The ink never smears and never gets on your hand.
I love the steel, It is really light and elegant.
There is one thing wrong with this pen. I have really sweaty hands so the grip doesn't really help so I constantly have to readjust my grip.
I've opened three of the pens and none of them have worked so far. Pretty irritating.
I'm a fan of relatively light to medium inks and this pen provided a medium shade of ink. If you prefer darker inks, I would definitely not suggest this pen.
The pen is super sturdy. I tend to write with a lot of force and can often experience a wobbly pen because of it. No matter how much force I exerted on this pen, the tip never wiggled once.
The pen provides the clearest writing lines I have ever seen.
No smudges! I write with my hand rubbing against the paper and found that I could create no smudges with this pen.
There is no cushion like padding on the pen which can make your fingers hurt if you write for too long. The only sort of padding that is on this pen is a hard and ridged plastic that did not provide any sort of comfort.
Overall, if you want a pen that is light, provides clear lines, and is sturdy, then this is the pen for you!
