About this item

  • The Zefal "Cristophe" pedal clip is a half-toe clip that is designed to be used on mountain bikes. It is made of durable plastic and has a wide platform that provides support for the entire ball of the foot. The clip is easy to install and adjust, and it is compatible with most pedals.
  • Improved power transfer: The clip helps to keep the foot in place on the pedal, which improves power transfer and efficiency.
  • Increased stability: The clip helps to stabilize the foot on the pedal, which can be especially beneficial on rough terrain.
  • Reduced risk of slipping: The clip helps to reduce the risk of the foot slipping off of the pedal, which can be dangerous on steep hills or in technical sections of trail.

Back in the saddle again!
I spent years racing BMX and riding MTB before serious cycling took a back seat to family and career. I resumed the hobby about 18 months ago and still enjoy riding fast, technical singletrack but was taking a beating on my old rigid MTB so bought a fancy new one with full suspension about six months ago. It came with SPD pedals so I bought new shoes with clips and stuck with that setup until a few weeks ago after failing to regain the confidence (and therefore FUN) that I had with loosely strapped toe clips. I don't like the idea of flesh-eating flat pedals so figured these Zefals would be a great compromise, which is the case! They are easy to flip into, hold my feet in place in rough terrain, help transfer power on upstrokes, yet are easy to bail out of quickly. My only complaint is that the size guidance both here on Amazon and on the Zefal web site is ambiguous at best, so I hope the following helps save others the frustration and inconvenience I endured by guessing wrong and having to return and reorder to get the right size! The following size chart is on the tag:Toe-clips size S / M for Shoe size <= U.S. 9Toe-clips size L / XL for Shoe size > 9The following dimensions are on the Zefal web site (see "TOE-CLIPS 45"):L/XL : 75 x 89 x 67 mmS/M : 65 x 82 x 67 mmBased on the two sizes I purchased and measured, those numbers represent length x height x width.- length from front of pedal to front of toe clip (determines where bottom of shoe will rest on pedal)- height from bottom of toe clip mount (NOT top of pedal) to top of toe clip- width from left edge of toe clip to right edge of toe clip at widest part (where front of shoe fits)I wear a size US 9.5 shoe. With the S/M clip, the ball of my foot is too far behind the axle of the pedal, as if I'm riding on tip-toes. With the L/XL clip, the ball of my foot is well aligned with the axle of the pedal, about exactly the same as with my old strapped clips. My photos compare S/M with L/XL and show how my shoe fits on the pedal with the L/XL mounted.

I have a pair of these that have been on my bike for over a decade. They are a little bit scuffed up, but otherwise good as new.

Unlike the metal clips, these can't get bent out of shape. They always spring back. They are also easier on shoes than metal half clips.

I highly recommend these for anyone who wants a moderate amount of foot retention with normal shoes, like for a commuter bike.

The only downside is that these are a little bit fiddly to install. There are a lot of tiny nuts and washers. However, once they are installed, they never need to be fiddled with again.

A Very solidly-built toe clip; nicely curved in front to receive the toe of my shoe and even prevents unwanted side to side movement. Performs well and very light, so my pedals are very easy to flip up and my shoe toe slides right into the clip .
Easy to install, depending on your pedal design. Comes with screws and nuts, but I added split lock washers for extra security. The Extremely brief instructions do not say what the flat metal plates in the parts bag are for or where they should be installed. Those may be intended as a backing plate for the nuts, but the plates are too large and would not fit on the inside surface of my pedals, so I had to discard them. Instead I would have added a steel flat washer, but the screws are not long enough to accommodate that or the metal plates. Despite these minor shortcomings, I highly recommend these toe clips as excellent value for the price .

There is good news and bad new. The good news is that this is a solid product, will perform well if properly installed. The bad news is that depending on your pedal you may have to have a customized installation. I have Trek Line Elite pedals. They have an angled front and back. So I had to create beveled plastic inserts that would create a square face into which I could screw in the the toe clips. In addition , I had to use much longer screws and devise metal washers to attach the toe clips to the pedals. Lot of work! It all depends on the type of pedals you have.

My Christophe metal half toeclips finally died after 30 years. Welcome to the 21st century... these composite clips are an interesting upgrade. They installed easily in exactly the same way as the earlier set, with a pair of anodized bolts/nuts and enough play to align them to the mountain bike pedals. They've stayed firmly attached since installed, riding on a near-daily basis.
I've been using toe clips on all of my bikes since the 70's. I can't imagine riding without.

These Zefals are larger physically, but just as light as their metal ancestors. The patterned tread keeps your shoes from slipping laterally, even in very wet conditions. The generous toe 'box' easily accommodates all types of trail runners, light hiking boots, sneakers and sandals with ease without tearing up the fronts of your shoes. Their shape also allows for some aggressive pedalling, though they're not as effective as full toeclips, of course.

Only con: I'm still getting used to their size which can make contact with the ground while pedalling through curves at an aggressive angle. They're tough enough to survive these pavement scrapes, but I'd rather not end up in a spill.

    Very highly recommended!

    Highly Recommended!

The following size chart is on the tag:
    Toe-clips size S / M for Shoe size <= U.S. 9
    Toe-clips size L / XL for Shoe size > 9

    L/XL : 75 x 89 x 67 mm
    S/M : 65 x 82 x 67 mm

Based on the two sizes I purchased and measured, those numbers represent length x height x width.
    - length from front of pedal to front of toe clip (determines where bottom of shoe will rest on pedal)

Such a simple accessory to keep your feet in the right position on your pedals and stop them from slipping off. These half-clips are sturdy and subtle, and work well. They are a bit fiddly to install, but nothing too serious once the screws/nuts are threaded. Good value at the price. Recommended.
