This chip worked 4 times. I was using a 16gb scandisk SD card.
On the 5th time, using the USB extension it opened to a folder on the desktop which was all in code.
Then it flashed the message that it was removed improperly which could cause problems etc.. except I had not removed it.
I ejected it and put it in without the usb extension and it said memory card could not be read.
I put the chip back in my camera and it said the same thing and would not allow me to reformat it.
It made the card unreadable to any reader OR my camera and I lost all photos and cannot reformat the card, which is basically now lost.
I put a new 2gb chip in my camera, took some photos. It downloaded them twice.
The third time it did the same thing as above, ruined another chip.
Two unusable chips later, I have thrown this out and will buy a more expensive reader with five stars.
Update 09-01-11. I bought five more -- and the SAME THING happened. Four out of five cables worked fine, the fifth didn't. All 5 card readers were fine. I've got to give the manufacturer high grades for consistency.
I needed/wanted anyone so....
Anyways, transfer speeds of the reader aren't disclosed in the package or description. Transfers as fast as my Class 10 cards would allow, so it goes atleast 20 MB/s or above.
Build quality is obviously lacking, and brings the longevity of the product into question. Package claims 5 year limited warranty, but whose to say Zeikos will even still be a brand in 5 years, or if anyone would bother to replace a $3.50 SSD reader.
I'd probably get one again if it meant saving $$$ for shipping prices.
While moving files between some computers via SD card, I managed to get THREE insertion/removals of the SD card before it simply died. If you "pinched" the cheap plastic housing it would come back to life for about a minute, then die again.
The USB 'extension' cable provided is NOT USB-II compliant either. I thought maybe I could reuse the extension cable, but it can not provide ample power to most USB devices requiring USB power. The wire used is very thin, thinner than the cable used on most ear-bud headphones even. I wonder if this even meets USB-I specs.
Long story short, it all went in the garbage. It was cheaper to throw it away than to ship it back. The thing is too cheap to even bother with return shipping or the hassle of an RMA.
