Dust blower bulb

This little bulb is probably very good at what it was made for; for blowing dust off of computers etc. I did not purchase it for that, I purchased it to inflate an air bag used to open car doors to retrieve keys locked inside, etc. I am a locksmith and was unable to find a proper inflating bulb, so I tried this one. It is not sufficient for the purpose I was using it for, but it was not intended for that purpose. It inflates the bag partially when just pumping it, and will inflate the bag quite well if one holds a finger over the intake hole when squeezing the bulb. This takes a lot of time, and I am still searching for the proper bulb for the job. Unfortunately, those who sell the bag units don't carry the extra bulbs by themselves, they want to sell one a $35 to $50 bag complete instead of a $4 to $ bulb.

I ordered this b/c I had a large piece of dust on the image sensor of my new camera, & I couldn't get off by gently blowing on it (I know you're not supposed to just blow, but I was desperate & made sure it was gentle/dry!), with no luck. On the verge of taking it in and getting it cleaned for $50 4 days after I just purchased the dang thing, I ordered this on 2day delivery and to my pleasant surprise the dust speck was easily blown away.

An absolute MUST for anybody with an SLR, where dust can get in the important places.

Giottos' might be nice in that it can stand up when you set it down, as opposed to rolling away from you, but there's no reason to pay anything more than you need to for something as simple as a blower...

Not really much to it except that it does what it says it does and it does it quite well. The built looks and feels durable. The only thing I hate about it is the black rubber stinks a lot. So if you're going to place it on your camera bag, when you open it, you will get a rubbery smell. Same is true if you're using it since you can smell the rubber on your hand.

For the price of this blower you can't go wrong. It does smell a little like a new bike tire, but a small plastic bag easily keeps the subtle odor off my camera gear. Just to clear up a little misinformation from the other reviews, there is no air filter. The plug at the back end has a little rubber flap that flips open when re-inflating the bulb. Unless you're cleaning your gear in a sand storm, the lack of a filter is probably not going to affect you. There was a little extra oil on the inside of the back plug on mine so it's a good idea to disassemble it and wipe off any excess so it doesn't get misted onto your gear.

The dust blower does the job BUT is is bulky. Takes up a lot of room in may camera bag. I may just stash it at home and use it when I return from a trip to give my cameras a good cleaning. It is 6" long and the bulb is 2" in diameter. I have seen dust blowers that are much smaller that work as well. A 5* for performance BUT a 2* for size = a 3*

At half the price or less than most other products (I've tried em all, including the Giotto), the blower works perfect. I've been putting it to use every day. Also, I don't know if the product has been modified since past reviewers, or simply a unique model in the batch, but the smell is not strong at all. Putting it up to your nose, you smell plain old rubber. But I don't know why you'd be sniffing this thing anyway. It does its job perfect.

UPDATE: After using this for almost 6 months, it still functions perfectly and has absolutely no smell. I honestly can't understand all the complaints on here

However it's much too small to do much for larger tasks, like blowing dust particles off a DSLR sensor or out of the mirror box. This product has an INTENSE, NAUSEATING, SMOKEY, RAW RUBBER STENCH. It's not just a little bit of a factory smell, it is strong enough to fill the whole room. Can't air this out in our apartment, and suspect that even after weeks, every puff of air from this product will push out more of the nasty smell again. I don't care how well it works on dust removal - it smells toxic.

UPDATE: I returned the item ... and got a whopping $1,02 refund.

Really, Amazon?

A $1.02 refund for returning a TOXIC SMELLING product that gave everybody in my family a headache within 30 minutes of opening the packaging??? How can shipping this light weight item possibly cost $5.01? The return should be free, if anything.

Your refund is neither worth my time mailing it (including a bubble envelope), nor the carbon footprint it takes to bring this piece of junk back to your warehouse. This is a slap in the face of a long standing, avid customer.

Shame on you!

Kind of cheaply made with the valve system, I ended up putting a zip tie around the intake area and now it doesn't leak when blowing air so the stream is stronger. Now it's awesome. It also has an addicting China rubber factory smell, that subsides over time and is easily mistaken for dirty armpit BO. The cat hates it, and one blow makes kitty run away.
