It was a bit difficult to get the paper that was covering the sticker to place this on the lens caps. Once I got the paper off, and placed it by pressing down pretty hard, it was stuck like chuck on the lens cap. It's decent quality. I can definitely see that in the future I may have to apply some adhesive to reattach, but right now it's holding tight like it's supposed to! Best investment (even if it's only a few bucks for 2 of them) I've made!
I had these on my Canon A-1 and 50mm lens but they were different and better in how they attached. They attached with strong velcro dot to the lens cover, and to the lug on the camera for the camera strap. This was a better method because the retainer strap stayed with the camera and it just reattached to the velcro dot on the cap of whichever lens I had mounted. That was very useful to me, and is why I purchased these, but these are permanently mounted to the camera lens cap and stay with the lens itself, and not with the camera. Not a good combination in my use and opinion.
The elastic band is too short for larger diameter lenses, like Canon "L" series zooms, and the two ends of the elastic are crimped with the cord in a cheap metal clip. The cord itself is really flimsy, I actually cut mine when it got caught under the lens hood bayonet joint while attaching the hood. I ended up splicing the cut cord with a piece of heavy nylon carpet sewing thread, and that thread is stronger than the cord.
I can't recommend this product, it is just too cheaply made. If you like cap keepers, you could make one just like this yourself, except with much better materials. Buy some 1/4" wide elastic from any fabric store, and chalkline cord (without the chalk) from any hardware store. Sew together the ends of a loop of the elastic big enough to fit your lens, and sew or tie the cord to the loop. Then attach the cord to the lens cap in any of a number of ways. Try this: make a small loop in the end of the cord, then hot-glue the loop to the cap. Or drill a small (1/16") hole in the cap in a place where it doesn't penetrate through (so you don't let in dust to the front of the lens), and tie the cord through the hole. Your home made cap keeper will be more durable and reliable and won't look any cheesier than this one.
Zeicos makes some nice aftermarket accessories - see my review on their lens caps - but this cap keeper isn't one of them.
UPDATE September 2012. Of the four copies of this cap keeper I originally bought, the cords have broken on three of them, requiring replacement, and the adhesive has failed on two of them. I definitely won't buy these again.
When you're out taking photos you're brain is in a creative mind set. Let it stay there and not have to get bounced out when you can't find your lens cap. They are cheap and simple.
I have to buy in relative bulk because whenever friends see them, I end up giving away my extras. These are so low profile and durable AND CHEAP. It just doesn't make sense NOT to but them on every one of your lens caps.
It's not just about the security of not losing your lens caps (ever!) - but also that when you want to take a shot, all you have to do is pop off the cap. You don't have to take a hand to put it in your pocket, and then reach in your pocket to put it back on.
I know this doesn't sound like a lot of trouble - and most times, I agree that it's not. But:
(1) for those absolutely fleeting but insane moments that you want to catch, it helps, and
(2) what's worth more - that tiny bit of trouble every time you want to take a shot OR $1.50 one time?
BOTTOM LINE, these things are too cheap NOT to buy and use on EVERY lens cap.
