Boy was I not expecting what gems of information Shama had to offer. Not only was this book laid out in snippets that were easy to understand, enjoyable to read, and quick to get through, but I was really entertained every step of the way. The knowledge this woman has to offer is genuine, human, and vast. Like another reviewer said, I really had to keep putting the book down to keep trying and implementing the ideas she offered, and at the same time, I just wanted to keep reading! I really had no idea there were so many simple and yet powerful things that could make Social Media and blogging so effective. My Kindle is wrought with highlights and notes aplenty.
One thing I wanted to note that I find is most important of all: Shama is honest and "real" with her advice. She does not use the reader to gain more "likes" and "+1"s on her pages. She does not give you exercises that boost the publicity and traffic to her own websites. She urges the reader to be honest with his or her fans, to always be true to being a genuine person in search for relationships and connections, and to never use these social media tools as mechanisms for spam or dishonest behavior.
I'm a bit sad this book is over but now that it is, I have SO many ideas to implement into our company website and social media pages once they're up and running 100%. I have already used several of her ideas and although they do take effort and dedication, I am proud to be seeing some results already.
Two thumbs up and highly recommended.
There are probably others like me who avoided social media because all I ever saw was meaningless banter. However, I now realize how I've been missing the big picture. It is a practical communication tool that can help individuals (and their companies) build a global presence. I'm getting started with the ideas from the book, sharing my expertise in risk management. Thanks, Shama.
I spent months searching for an easy to understand, clear, concise and (most importantly) up-to-date textbook for my Social Media Tools course and am thrilled that I found Kabani's book! My students are excited about this book and most of have tattered copies to prove that this book is their ONE "go-to" book for all things social media marketing/management related.
Kabani's proven track-record as an entrepreneur in the field make her advice and insight especially relevant in today's world of "everyone is an expert" rhetoric. Getting the gist of authentic social media management and marketing is tough and certainly not for the faint of heart. Kabani has lived it, breathed it, been there and done it all with her wildly successful Dallas-based firm, The Marketing Zen Group. I am not a paid spokesperson and I want to be clear about that. I am placing this review to save you time in your search for the "right" social media instruction guide. You can stop right now. You've found the Holy Grail of getting started in Social Media, all in one book.
Kabani takes you through all you need to know in a clean, step-by-step, manner. She points out pitfalls, do's and don't's, must have's and all kinds of tips and tricks! In our world, we need all the shortcuts we can get and Kabani's notes are solid and tested. Her tools work and you don't need to be an Internet Guru to master these techniques.
BUY IT, read it in a weekend and be ready to turn the page to the next chapter of marketing your brand via social media. If you do not have a presence in social media then you *will* be left in the dust. That is just the way of our short-attention-span society. Hop on board with this simple and straightforward book. You will NOT be sorry you purchased this book.
I am delighted I found it and so are my college students!
