The Best of Windows 10
Get the best Windows 10 experience on the ZenBook UX305 - an Ultrabook that elegantly combines powerful performance with sophisticated design. Its laser-edged, concentric circle pattern is inspired by a circular clock, and the aluminum unibody adds form to functionality as it travels with you weightlessly throughout the day.
See the Difference Anywhere--and Wherever you Go
The ZenBook UX305’s 13.3-inch IPS anti-glare display looks amazing and prevents distracting glare whether you’re working in a brightly lit room or streaming videos sitting at a cafe table in the sun. With a wide viewing angle of 178-degrees, share the screen with others when watching an HD movie or showing your presentation files.
Ultra Thin, Ultra Light and Completely Silent
Under half an inch thin and under 3 pounds, ZenBook UX305 beats out the competition as the thinnest and lightest ultrabook in its class. Now it’s easier than ever to slip in and out of cases and bags for compact carrying convenience. Adding even more function to form, the processor and SSD use rare chromium copper alloy coils for advanced cooling.
Typing Comfort Hours on End
With longer all day battery life, there’s more comfort and responsiveness with the ZenBook UX305. Extra attention went into developing an ergonomic full-size keyboard that features optimal 1.5-millimeter key travel (how deep the keys press down), a rubberized palm rest and an extra wide touchpad that simulates a touchscreen for effortless Windows gesture control.
Keeps up with you Step-by-Step
With the new Intel Core i5-6200U Processor, 8GB of 1600MHz LPDDR3 memory and 256GB Solid State Drive, ZenBook UX305 starts up in seconds and keeps moving at a rapid pace as you open anything from web browsers to large programs.
Unlike other portable laptops, ZenBook UX305UA is built for enthusiast-class applications, including photo and video editing while on-the-go.
Next Gen Mobile Graphics
Don’t let the slimness of ZenBook UX305UA fool you. The embedded Intel HD Graphics still powers graphic-intensive programs for light video and photo editing and casual games. When connected via the micro-HDMI port to a larger 4K display, play video up to 4K resolution and enjoy the highest fidelity visual entertainment.
Mobile HD Video Chatting
Stay close with family and friends with the integrated 1.2-megapixel HD camera for real-time high quality video chatting. Motion capturing is 30 frames-per-second (fps)--double that of most standard 15 fps cameras--so that all your video plays back smooth. And high-sensitivity sensors deliver enhanced low-light capturing to make more details standout in the darkest environments.
SuperSpeed USB 3.0 with USB Charger+
ZenBook UX305 features 3 built-in USB 3.0 ports to deliver up to 10 times faster transfer speed compared to previous generation USB. One USB port is further enhanced with USB Charger+ for up to 50 percent faster charging to USB 3.0 devices -- even with the PC is 'asleep' or shut down.
Hear the Magic of Audio
Combining the expertise of the ASUS and Bang & Olufsen ICEpower, ZenBook UX305 lets you experience amazing acoustics in all your music, media and games. Oval voice coils, large speaker magnets and even the resonating aluminum design of UX305 are all separate parts of the complete sound system whole.

I'm aware that I'm comparing an almost $2500 machine to a $750 one, but honestly overall I feel that it's not that big of a difference, other than the processing power and memory, of course.
I didn't like the initial start up to be honest. It seemed kind of buggy and didn't have a very sensible user-flow. That might sound picky, but I really like how Apple handles the start ups, it just seems like they put a lot of care and thought into your first experience with the machine. I didn't get that with the ASUS. I was taken to the same screen multiple times that read something like "We are setting things up for you. This shouldn't take long." After it asked me for some info, it took me back to the same screen. This happened probably 2 or 3 times. Again, super picky and not a huge deal, but the first experience with the computer was just kind of "meh."
Overall I think the computer is made beautifully. I love the aluminum and the color, and the size is incredibly sleek. I love the way it looks. The screen opens beautifully from a closed position without lifting the bottom, which is not always the case for a laptop this size. It's sounds like a small thing but I really enjoy that aspect of it.
One of the first and biggest differences I noticed about the computer was the trackpad. I'm a huge fan of the MacBook trackpad - it's incredibly smooth and highly responsive. The ASUS trackpad feels much cheaper and requires a much stronger touch to get a response. Definitely will take some getting used to.
Honestly I expected worse. I read several reviews complaining about the lackluster keyboard, but I really don't mind it much at all. It's easy to type with, comfortable spacing and the keys feel like they're pretty quality. I do still prefer the MacBook keyboard, but the ZenBook keyboard really isn't bad at all. One thing I do miss is the music control keys on the F7-F10 (or whatever it is) keys. On the ZenBook you can't control your music with the keyboard (as far as I can tell) and as an avid music listener this is kind of a bummer.
This was one of my biggest concerns. I had a retina display on the 15 inch, and I loved it. I was also worried about the ZenBook having a matte display instead of a glossy one. But honestly, I kind of like it after I've been looking at it for a couple of days. The glare is virtually non-existent, and the 1080 screen at 13 inches is plenty of clarity. Of course it's not as clear as the rMBP, but it's pretty damn close to my eye.
I thought this was going to be one of the biggest adjustments to make. I've been a Mac user for the past 7 or 8 years, so my last experience with Windows I think was Windows XP. That being said, Windows 10 isn't too bad at all. It's very user friendly, and honestly wasn't a very big adjustment and I'm fairly used to it after a few hours of using. I do miss some of the trackpad gestures on the MacBook (like using two fingers instead of clicking the back button to go back in the browser), but there are some useful gestures on here as well, and I'm still learning them as I play around with it.
Probably one of my biggest gripes with this machine is the speakers. Granted it is a pretty small computer, but it's just not very loud at all. The sound is pretty tinny. I was aware of this before as many reviewers have mentioned it as well, but I thought I'd throw it in there. I mostly use headphones, so it's not a huge deal.
For the value I'm getting with this computer, I'm very happy. I spent a fraction of the price and got better specs than if I had spent $1200 on a 12 inch MacBook. The computer is responsive, beautiful, easy to use and has everything I need. 9/10, would definitely recommend.
TL;DR: The computer is a great value. As a long time Mac user, the switch was very easy to make. I don't feel that I'm missing out on much at all with this computer and I spent a fraction of the money on it.
- Compact and Lightweight
- Solidly Built Aluminum Chassis
- Haven't tested the battery life yet, but it is saying 10 hours when I turn on battery saver with the screen at lower brightness
- Really crisp matte screen with good viewing angles that is easy to read even at lower brightness.
- I haven't thrown anything too intense at it, but the processing specs for this thing are pretty solid and with the SSD it boots up really fast.
- The screen comes with a slight green hue to it, which I probably wouldn't have noticed right away had I not been looking for it (other reviews mentioned it). Luckily you can remove the stock 'Asus splendid' software and use the standard windows screen calibration tool to fix this (I ended up setting green to -3). After calibrating this screen, I actually noticed a hue in my external monitor and calibrated that so this could be nitpicking.
- Doesn't come with a full HDMI connector. This is reportedly common in small form factor laptops like this, but just be aware you will need to get a micro HDMI to HDMI adapter (got one for $5 on amazon) if you want to connect to standard HDMI.
- Small hard drive (256 GB). One of the sacrifices you make for a small laptop with an SSD at the moment. Wait a few years for SSD prices to come down and a similar laptop will probably have plenty of space.
- Chassis picks up finger prints rather easily, but that's not uncommon in laptops. I think it's more noticeable due to the silver color.
- This is by no means a loud laptop, but there is a noticeable fan noise in a quiet room even sometimes when I'm not doing very computationally intensive work. My 3 year old Acer laptop is actually a bit quieter, which surprised me since this has an SSD.
- This isn't really a con, but the form factor of this laptop isn't anything groundbreaking like the Dell XPS 13 (which has a very small bezel that shrinks size of the laptop). However, this Asus machine has similar specs to the Dell XPS and currently comes in over $400 cheaper.
So there you have it. Overall, I really like this laptop and for the money I think it's a pretty incredible package. However, just be aware of the above limitations.
