Top customer reviews
That being said, this case is NOT for everyone. It should also be said that I do NOT use this as my daily case. I have another case that I use on a daily basis.
That being said, I do take many road trips, camping trips, and spend many hours at various amusement parks throughout the world. I use this case for the soul purpose of not having a carry a separate external charger. This case is PERFECT for those times. I don't mind that it takes overnight to charge the extended battery, as I put it on the charger the night before I need it. This Zerolemon case feels VERY nice in hand. The TPU is soft to the touch, and is far less of a lint magnet than I thought it would be. This case is rather "Heavy" due to the fact that the ginormous 8500 milliamp battery that is included. I am able to charge up my phone at least 2 to 3 times with this case, which means I would not have to charge my phone for at least 2 days, perhaps even 3 or 4 depending on my usage. I love the fact that I can charge other devices off this battery case. My GoPro camera that I use a LOT on the road does not have the best battery. I feel confidant that I can charge up my GoPro camera using this battery as well as my phone. This is the perfect solution for me. Your mileage may vary. Here are the pros and cons I have found:
Massive 8500 milliamp batter will charge my phone multiple times.
Soft TPU cover feels awesome in the hand, and is NOT a lint magnet like I thought it would be.
Battery charges up much faster than I thought it would. Charge it at night while asleep and the next day it is ready to go.
The ability to charge another device off of this battery case is ingenious and is a HUGE help.
Phone protection is pretty good, but not as good as some cases, that being said, I am pretty careful with my phone.
I have a ArmorSuit screen protector on my screen (see my other reviews), and there is no problem with this battery case making it peel up.
The camera cutout worried me, but I have taken over 300 photos with and without the case on, and I notice NO difference.
4 Nice LED lights showing how much battery is remaining on the battery case.
The do include an extra case to phone adapter in the box (I could imagine they are easy to lose)
The price I paid is well worth it (I did not pay the $99, but only slightly less).
30 days to try this out to see if it is a good solution for you.
180 Zero Lemon warranty.
The case is HEAVY and BULKY. That being said, I don't use this as my daily case, so I don't have an issue with that.
Other battery cases offer a bit better protection for the phone, but no one solution fits every issue.
I wish they included a headphone port extender in the box. You will need one to use a set of wired headphone.
The flap that covers the extra charging port is hard to get to stay in place (you have a work with it)
They only put flaps to cover the extra charging port. I wish they had done that for the charging port and the headphone port.
The power button and volume buttons are a tad squishy feeling. I cannot see a solution due to the thin bezel where the button are on the phone.
NFC will NOT work with this case on (not surprising seeing how thick this case is).
Wireless charging will NOT work with this case on (again, nor surprising seeing how thick the case is).
Even with quite a few Cons, this is one best of a battery case. I have absolutely NO hesitance recommending this product. My friends think it is one of the most amazing things they have ever seen. I have used many battery cases of my many phones, and I prefer this over most of them that I have used. Yes the Samsung one does offer wireless charging, however the battery is much smaller and it offers even less protection. The Mophie also offers wireless charging, but not nearly the batter capacity. They are both also much much more expensive.
I know many claim the fact that since the wireless charging and NFC are a NO go on this case, that makes it a NO GO. My answer to that is that the case is VERY easy to put on and off, and I can take my phone out to use either one if necessary. Since I rarely use NFC payments (Samsung Pay is not offered with Capital One yet, and I don't like android pay) I don't have an issue not using NFC. As I stated before, this is NOT my daily case, my daily case does allow for wireless charging, so wireless charging working for me is not a big deal.
I cannot tell you just how handy this battery case is on the road. My road trips are often over 20 hours, and I never have to fumble with a charger in the car. When I am at Amusement Parks, Hiking, or Camping I never ever have to worry about my phone dying. That piece of mind means a whole lot more to me than NFC or Wireless charging.
Hope this helps everyone!
I was weary because the cost is so low but figured I would give it a try. GLAD I did, this is a great battery case. Even though they report it as having an additional 150% worth of power, I have found I can re-charge my phone from 15% to full charge up to 3 times. WOW.
Lots of power
Easy to charge and use
USB Pass-through - Ability to charge ANY other device, even while recharging my phone
Full protection case
Weight - Although this unit is heavy, it is needed to have all the power it does. Honestly, I do not mind the weight personally but it might be an issue for some. I would NOT give up power for less weight.
Charging lights – I wish the charging lights were not lit when you are charging the phone, although I am sure it is not using a lot of power to keep them lit, I would like the option of having them off and still charging the phone
As you can see, the cons are minute and are just peeves more than anything, the pros far outweigh the cons. I am glad I was persistent in finding just the right battery case.
I highly recommend this charger case for anyone who needs lots of power and wants the ability to last 2+ days without needing to be near power.
Let's get to the meat and potatoes of this case...
8500mAh battery pretty much ensures you're going to get your money's worth. I've drained the battery to zero only once - most times I'm lucky to drain it 25 percent and it keeps my S7 Edge charged pretty well.
The battery charges perfectly fine with most USB 2.1a chargers. On the rare times I've had to charge the battery from it's lowest average point (about 3/4 drained), it will take about 7 hours to charge the phone and battery combined - and that's with standard 2.1a charging using an older Anker 5 port USB charger.
The secondary charging capability for other devices is nice, but not really needed. It's a "good to have" feature that makes you feel good having it, but it's not something you're going to use on a daily or even occasional basis.
Fast charging pass through is very nice. If you are using the original factory charger, or one of the fast charge capable third party chargers, this will fast charge your S7 Edge. It does NOT fast charge the add-on battery pack.
The TPU case is good to the touch, has the right level of "roughness" so that you get a good grip on the device. And you need it. This case/battery combination will pretty much double the thickness and weight of the S7 Edge when the phone is in a normal case. It's a big, beefy setup for those who need a huge amount of portable power on the road.
This is a nit-picky little issue, but it is one that bugs the heck out of me. It does NOT work well with screen protectors. Cases from Mophie, Speck, Otterbox, and other companies seem to make a case that works well with screen protectors, and doesn't make you change the protector out on a constant basis.
Because of the TPU case edges and slight lack of finishing, the case will lift up the edges of where the power button and the corners will go. I've used two different types of InvisiShield (normal and HD), three versions of off branded screen protectors, and all of them will lift the corners and edges (top, bottom, and sides) while using the TPU case.
This, frankly, is a bit bad. I've gone through 2 S7 Edges due to warranty repairs, and it's nice to have a screen protector. Not having one, even with the S7 Edge and it's Gorilla Glass, is asking for trouble. I've had to replace (through Zagg) 4 sets of InvisiShield protectors via their warranty. The cheapie throwaway screen protectors fare no better than the brand name ones - you always get lifting. And they lift in places where you don't expect them to - in the flat areas where there is no button flexing nearby (like the top and bottom edges of where the case meets the phone).
The lack of NFC isn't a huge issue for me. Nor is the lack of data connectivity via USB - that's stuff I can deal with. Once I set the phone up, it stays in the case.
You may experience a very slight degrading of the cell phone signal. I don't see it when using a signal checking software package. It definitely does not impact the WiFi signal.
For some - the large size of the phone/battery combination can be a drawback. It's pseudo-brick-like heft is something that doesn't fit well in a pair of skinny jeans (not that I wear that anyways). If you're the working person type that uses cargo pants or cargo shorts, the phone/battery combination works very well.
As a person that works in environments where the phone can be away from the charging plug AND you're constantly wearing it down because of the software you run on it, the ZeroLemon combination is one that you can't beat. It runs rings around the Mophie unit, and is far cheaper to purchase.
