I actually meant to order the 2 ounce scooper, but if you want something that scoops ice cream to fit snugly inside a waffle cone or extend slightly beyond a sugar cone then this is an excellent size for that.
Even though I ordered the wrong size, the brand choice was no accident. I'm definitely a Zeroll ice cream scoop consumer for life! I owned my previous Zerroll scoop for almost 8 years, and if I hadn't lost it in a move, I would have never needed another.
It's true what the product claims. Even ice cream coming out of the freezer in a rock hard state curls, scoops, and forms into a ball pretty easily with this scooper. I've scooped ice cream, frozen yogurt, frozen granita -- you name it, the scoop has scooped it and made good looking balls of ice cream. I really don't see a reason to use anything else.
What I really wanted to mention was how comfortable this was to use. I also use it, of course, and I've got very short, small hands, and some carpal tunnel issues that make gripping less than fun. This handle is deceptively large and when I first held it, I didn't think it was comfortable, but it works really well despite my grip issues. Even with the hardest, most frozen ice cream, I can just hold the scoop for a few seconds, then dig in and get what I need.
I find the 3 ounce size perfect -- when you start to scoop you can just stop when you get what you want, or you can keep pushing the scoop into the ice cream and roll up a larger amount of ice cream. It's shaped perfectly for that and works like a charm. Definitely recommended.
My wife was a bit scandalized by the price, but the Zeroll scoops are built to last.
It works like magic. The fluid inside conducts heat from your hand to the ice cream, causing it to melt where the scoop touches it, making carving up even the hardest block of ice cream or frozen yogurt into attractive scoops a simple task. You don't need to (and shouldn't) heat it up or pre-soak it. It cleans up quite easily, which is vital since it MUST NOT be put in the dishwasher.
I love fine tools that do their job well. This is one.
The only problem I have with my scoop and the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is I found that the ice cream WOULD NOT come off the scoop! It kinda just stuck onto the scoop no matter how hard I shook. I ended up having to take another spoon and scrape it off the scoop. The scooping ice cream up from the carton was a breeze but not getting the ice cream off the scoop!
