I didn’t realize this was a substitute for a box spring so I officially have the world’s tallest bed lol. I have my box spring and mattress on it so I can’t speak to the comfort if you didn’t but it seems like you’d have plenty of support.
I’m a big girl and I’ve already tested it out with a big guy. Together about 400lbs. It’s a bed so I’ll just put this out there, sexy time was not an issue lol. Nothing creaked, shook or broke. I gave it 5 stars for quality and the price point. I would buy again.
One point I figured out that I didn't see in the instructions, the cross-pieces have double-sided tape on them - this is to keep the mattress from sliding on the metal frame. Also, I suggest installing the eight cross-pieces (four on each side) first, then installing the two middle pieces. The middle pieces have screws that go in the sides and pull the whole frame tight - doing this first makes it hard to put the others in.
Got it for about $75 with Prime Shipping so it was definitely a great deal.

First of all, the packaging. Although it's light enough to carry by one person, it is very big. The length of the frame at least. So definitely not something that can easily be picked up from the post office if you miss your delivery. That's something to pay attention to if you live in an apartment like me. I had to beg Purolator to re-deliver, then stressfully waited by my phone in order not to miss the buzzer.
Now onto putting it all together. If you take a few moments to study the diagram, and compare the numbers to the bars, it's pretty straightforward. If you are good at building Lego's this will be a piece of take. The box comes with all the necessary tools and a few extra screws. Basically fool proof. I am a 5 foot tall woman and I put the whole thing together by myself in about 30 minutes.
It's a minimalist design. Looks super sturdy, allowing me to prop up my foam bed without a box spring or slats. Plenty of room underneath for storage. I'm very satisfied.
Update: I’ve since moved and gone through the disassembling and reassembling. Bed still going strong!!! Better than IKEA
Seein the nuts and bolts they are very well labeled.
Instructions are very very well made and all of the metal rods are labeled.
I recommend this bed frame and the company who made it.
They took the time to make nice labels, instructions and a quality frame.
Assembly: The metal slat bed has a more pieces and was a more involved build. The frame sides are in two pieces. The instructions had me assembling the foot of the frame into U with the feet attached and the head into an n with the feet attached. I was then to join the two assemblies into the complete frame. When I went to do so, one of the sides had a slight twist preventing the join. I tried using a large adjustable spanner (Crescent wrench) to twist the rectangular tube to fit. The frame material is very solid so this was not successful. I loosened the leg and the attachment of the side piece to the end piece and this allowed the join to be made. This problem speaks to how solidly the frame is built. The wooden frame went together without any hitches and with fewer steps. The metal slat bed kit included spare fasteners but the wooden slat kit did not. One of the hex holes on a bolt on the wooden slat bed stripped but the head was large enough to be able to use a Vise grip to finish the tightening. The finished build on both beds was very solid and I don’t doubt that both will be around after 20 years of daily use. The metal slat model seems to be the more robust of the two. It has three middle support legs vs one on the wooden slat model.
Design: The wooden slat model has 12 slats that are 65 mm wide and the metal model has 10 slats that are 12 mm wide. The wooden slat model does a better job of distributing the weight of the mattress. The metal slats are held in place with tabs welded onto the frame. They are not going anywhere. The wooden slats are held in place with Velcro. It might be necessary to redo the Velcro at some point in time (although probably not as there won’t be a lot of stress put on the Velcro under normal use.) The wooden slats appear to be of sufficient quality that they won’t warp from the dry weather however only time will tell.
If you have a need for extra strength (say rambunctious teen-aged boys) or you want to save a few dollars (the metal frame model is slightly less expensive,) you might opt for the metal frame model. Both of these beds offer great value for a low price.
Now on to what you really want to know.
I was able to install this king size base by myself but I can see why it recommends 2 people.
It can actually look harder to put together than it actually is (I've learned Zinus really focus on easy to assemble yet quality first).
I would definitely recommend this over a box spring. There are some mattress place holder sticky tape underneath and it's the perfect companion to a Zinus memory foam mattress (I'm sure other manufacturer are fine).
I'm unsure how much weight it can hold overall but it's very sturdy and strong once placed together.
I would highly recommend not tightening completely all the screws until everything is put together. It may seem like it's not going to flatten out or uneven until you tighten everything up at the end (after installing the slats).
Update; Almost 2 months later, the bed frame collapsed. It is not practical for a mattress or 1 person to sleep on it. Its absolutely weak besides noisy with any slight move. I didnt realize it only had 1 month amazon return window. I just deassambled it and need to figure out how to return it.
Update 2: Their customer service has been unhelpful via email a week later sending photos and listing broken parts. They have not offered to refund their defected product and claim that it is not eligible for a refund.
