Much Sturdier Than The Generic Store Brand We Normally Use

My Wife just finished using the first box of these ziplock bags and told me that they feel more sturdy than the store brand we usually buy. She said the zip 'lock' had not given her any issues as she sometimes encounters with the store brands. She has had issues with the store brand zippers simply not locking the top of the bag and ending up with spillage but these bags seem to have gotten it right.

MY MISTAKE TURNS INTO SOMETHING GREAT

Let me start off by explaining the four stars. I’m deducting a star for my stupidity. I ordered the wrong bags. This is what happens when you get old. Now the four stars are for the bags themselves. I’m a widower of ten years and I still can’t figure out how to cook for one. There’s always leftovers which I store in plastic bags, usually the smaller ones. These gallon size bags have made it necessary to cook differently which turns out to be a good thing. I’m a meat and potato’s guy along with a few root vegetables and I’m now preparing meals in advance. My meat preference is chicken, usually boneless, and I now buy it in the family size. Family size just means more and in my area you buy family size or pay anywhere from twenty five cents up to a dollar more for the smaller packages. It’s basically a ripoff and burdens singles and seniors who only need to feed themselves. I roast all of them, 6 to 8 in the oven usually with different herbs. Once done I put a breast in the bag after they cool. While the chicken is in the oven I prepare the root veggies. These include potatoes, carrots, whole onions, whole beets, turnips and squash. While the chicken is cooking the vegetables are in roasting. After they’re done and cool I devide them evenly and place them on top of the chicken. The bags are sealed and the zipper on these bags are strong. You can actually turn them upside down and they stay secure. These can be frozen. When I need one I let it thaw in the refrigerator. I have a microwave that has a defrost setting but for some reason when I went to eat my dinner the vegetables became soggy and the chicken still frozen in the center. I also prepare pasta with sauce and this too goes to freezer, defrost and microwaved all in the bag. Warning. When reheating anything with a sauce open just a small small part of the zipper. There are loads of other recipes I want to experiment with. My home health aide has found the bags very useful to store some cleaning supplies and has even made a rain hat out of one. My physical therapist has used them to store his massage oils to prevent spilling. I imagine there must be hundreds if not thousands of things the bags can be used for. To wrap this up. The bags, though the wrong size, have worked out fantastically.

These bags are good in that they can stand on their own when I am pouring or placing things in them. They also have a lot more room than traditional flat bags. The zippers work as they should but the bags themselves are a bit thinner than I prefer. They seem like they may puncture if something has sharp edges. But, in all, I am happy with these Ziploc Gallon Slider Storage Bags and will repurchase when the time comes.

These bags are ok, but not a thick as the Hefty brand. I like that these have the expandable bottom. They're great for regular stuff, but not for anything that you want to keep fresh for more than a week. If you want a truly airtight seal get the bags with the zipper top.

I use these mostly for my dog's raw dinners. I sometimes store chinchilla food in them when I run out of containers. They are mostly okay, but sometimes the slider doesn't open the bag or the piece falls off which is super annoying. I also used these for marinating. One time they leaked. I don't know if I will keep using these or go back to the traditional Ziploc.

However, the one small problem I have encountered, is when I re-use them (I wash them, let them dry and re-use them), I am not able to store food in the freezer, or the food would burn (freezer burn). As long as you do not use them the way I just described, I recommend them.

Brilliant zip closure system. Vastly superior to the press to seal bags that are more readily available in the supermarkets. The zip works just the same as a zip on clothes, therefore you KNOW it is sealed properly. You can easily squeeze out all the excess air in the bag too, by almost closing the zip, squeezing out the air, then zipping all the way. Genius design. All manufacturers need to change their systems to the zip!
