About Zippo Pipe Lighters
First released in 1982, the Zippo pipe lighter was designed for the special needs of pipe smokers. Any full size lighter may be ordered from the factory with a pipe lighter insert. Because the pipe insert fits in any standard Zippo case, you can choose the design as carefully as you choose your tobacco.

About Zippo Manufacturing Company
One of the most recognized brands in the world, Zippo was founded in the fall of 1932 by George G. Blaisdell in Bradford, Pennsylvania, where it has manufactured over 550 million windproof lighters. With the exception of improvements to the flint wheel and modifications in case finishes, the product remains unchanged and is backed by the company's famous lifetime guarantee - 'It works, or we fix it free'.
Zippo's diverse product line includes lighters and accessories, butane candle lighters, fragrance, and a robust line of heat and flame products for outdoor enthusiasts.
Zippo markets in nearly 200 countries and also owns the Ronson brand of lighters and fuel and W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery, both based in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
Genuine Zippo brushed chrome windproof lighter with special pipe lighter insert. The Zippo pipe lighter is made to the same high quality standards as a Zippo windproof pocket lighter, but designed for the special needs of pipe smokers. The ingenious design encases the flame in metal, allowing it to be drawn directly into the pipe without bending over the side with no damage to the pipe. Refill with Zippo premium lighter fluid for dependable, long-lasting service. Distinctive bottom stamp identifies this lighter as genuine Zippo.

There are a lot of pipe lighters out there, many will cost you several times more than this and will not last you. Go ahead and research the fancier pipe lighters out there, you will find that something always goes wrong with them. Zippo has, for generations, made a quality product at a low price, and it continues to do so. They stand behind their product 100% and, in the unlikely event that something does break they will send you a replacement part FREE.
Butane lighters are cool looking, but do not last without costly repairs. If you want consistent performance, year after year, either get matches or a Zippo, a fancy and expensive lighter with electric ignition will not last you. Go ahead, search the "main players" out there and see waht people are saying.
A few things to keep in mind:
- People complain that the lighter spills fluid, but this only happens if you over fill it. Add fluid until you see the wick gets moist (without dripping) and you will be fine.
- People out there complain that they can taste the lighter fluid. Well, I never had this issue.
- People complain they have to re-fill the lighter (DUH! it's a re-fillable lighter). A fill will last you about a week, I'd say that's reasonable.
- One thin I heard that it is absolutely and utterly ridiculuous is that you have to such the flame down too hard to get it to the tobacco. If you have to suck like a vacuum cleaner to light your tobacco, you simply do not know how to pack your pipe, period.
I will not spend 10 times as much for Chinese made garbage when I can get a good, quality product, at a fraction of the price, made in the U.S. and guaranteed for life. Trust me, you are unlikely to ever have to use the warranty.
Matches are great for lighting a pipe, but not as convenient. Bic lighters are good to have stuck in a drawer if you run out of fluid or matches. If you want a proper pipe lighter that will last you your entire life time and will be easy on the wallet, get a Zippo.
There is no lighter like a Zippo There nothing like the manly snap of the lid upon closing practically every Butaine lighter I have ever used caused calisis on my thumb tryjng to get it to light. If they have an adjustable flame lever it is difficult to set to avoid wasting butaine. A Zippo is much more economical to use even with no flame adjustment and lights easily with a slight turn of the flint wheel. I have been smoking a pipe for 70yrs and the first lighter I used was a Zippo This lighter is an excellent pipe lighter and is Definitely more convient than a butaine cigarette lighte
er Don't be fooled using a Zippo is more economical than using cheap butaine lighters or the refillable butaine lighters I like the black matte finish and the pipe emblem on it. By the way this lighter will work just was well for cigarettes or cigars. A great lighter with or without the little clip on top.
By the way if Zippo reads this review I would appreciate a replacement flame chamber cover clip 😊
In terms of quality, I have to say it's not as nice as any off-the-shelf Zippo from as recently as five years ago. It has a "knockoff" feel, which is accentuated by the painted graphics. The opposite side is plain polished metal, which scratches if you look at it the wrong way. I own several Zippo lighters that have metal and copper emblems, and they weren't high-end, or anything. So, this was kind of disappointing all around.
As a pipe lighter, there's a circular cutout on the side that normally has vents, and a clip over the top to baffle the flame. The clip is easy to remove, if you're going to use this for cigarettes and cigars (I'd go with matches or butane on cigars, but to each their own). This Zippo doesn't travel with me in my pocket every day like my old ones used to, but if it did, I'd be concerned about that clip falling off and disappearing.
It's not a bad lighter by any means, but the lowest-end Zippo lighters have traditionally been brushed metal lighters. If I had found a pipe version of one on Amazon, I would have been happier than with this.
