About Zippo Matte Lighters
The first matte lighter (black) was introduced into Zippo's stock line in 1984. Soon after the first introduction of the matte lighter four more colors were introduced: blue, burgundy, green, and grey. In 1985, the Zippo logo was imprinted on the lighter and a border was added.

Zippo Matte Windproof Lighter Case
The matte lighters have a standard case shape featuring rounded corners and top with a flat bottom. The exterior of the case has a smooth matte finish that is applied with a powder coat.
A distinctive lasered five-barrel hinge authenticates this lighter as genuine Zippo.

About Zippo Manufacturing Company
One of the most recognized brands in the world, Zippo was founded in the fall of 1932 by George G. Blaisdell in Bradford, Pennsylvania, where it has manufactured over 550 million windproof lighters. With the exception of improvements to the flint wheel and modifications in case finishes, the product remains unchanged and is backed by the company’s famous lifetime guarantee – 'It works, or we fix it free'.
Zippo’s diverse product line includes lighters and accessories; butane candle lighters; fragrance, and a robust line of heat and flame products for outdoor enthusiasts.
Zippo markets in nearly 200 countries and also owns the Ronson brand of lighters and fuel and W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Company, both based in Bradford, Pennsylvania.

- A zippo holds about 1/2 oz of fluid at a time.
- If you accidentally overfill, fear not, you can let it air out outside. It evaporates very quickly, as you will soon learn.
- Let youtube be your guide. More fun than printed instructions.
- The two digits on the bottom of the lighter refer to the year; the letter is a code for the month, e.g. J = 10th letter = October.
Yes, there are electronic lighters now, and they're cool, but the noise sounds like a Zika-infected mosquito in your ear. My one complaint about traditional lighters is the smell of the fluid, but I'm used to it. I even like it.
Enjoy your Zippo.
I was probably just unlucky, but I’m a student in masters, have a job, my time is incredibly precious and scarce. So, wanting a working product as soon as possible resulted in me going out of my way to get the replacement than having to wait around.
I should be giving this 2 stars, but feel it would be too harsh. I’m not happy I had to jump through extra hoops, though. The zippo itself came with the sealed packaging sticker thing, indicating it was brand new and untampered with.
But, anyways, the matte finish is bloody fantastic. That’s the only thing I can say I like, I really do want to give this two stars, though because of price and having to pay extra else where because of a bad insert.
However, the quality is definitely up to American standards. It has that satisfying click of opening and closing the lid. That satisfying spark and ignition of the flame, then closing the lid to get rid of it. Ah, yes.
Fluid does not ship with this, it comes dry, which of course, seems logical. I used just standard yellow container lighter fluid, Ron.. something. Works fantastically.
So, even if you're not a smoker, it's still a good option to carry a lighter with you in the event of needing fire. Never know. Maybe that's what I tell myself and my friends might be right of being an arsonist. Any who, Zippo or a Bic lighter? Zip.
It was a crinkle finish paint on the exterior - not matte. Also the Wick is not the measure of the zippo one. All things though - it is a good lighter for $4.50 even though it took 5 weeks to ship.
