From the manufacturer
Armor Chrome Lighters
The Armor lighters were first introduced into our stock line in 2005 which included the Brushed Brass, Brushed Chrome, High Polish Chrome, and High Polish Brass Armor models.
To achieve the deep carved look on the Armor lighters, the graphic is rendered in a state of the art 3D software. A powerful milling machine accurately engraves deep contoured cuts into an Armor case using many tool sizes, special buffing, and plating.
The deep carve process is used on Heavy-Wall Armor cases only.
The Armor lighters, like all Zippo windproof lighters, are backed by the famous Zippo Guarantee - 'It works or we fix it free'.
Any Zippo pocket lighter, when returned to our factory, will be put in first class mechanical condition free of charge, for we have yet to charge for the repair of a Zippo pocket lighter, regardless of age or condition. The finish, however, is not guaranteed.
- Case is 1.5 times as thick as a standard Zippo case
- Armor lighters will not fit our display stands
- Brite cut is limited to Armor cases only
- Deep carve can only be done on Heavy-Wall Armor cases
Limited to Armor cases only, bright-cut engraving produces dazzling high and low facets, resulting in the dimensional look of a beautiful emblem directly on the surface.
Two-Tone Rotary Process
Produced for the first time on Brushed Chrome Armor, the deep carve, tow-tone rotary process creates a tactile, emblem-like surface with definitive brass highlights.
Deep Carve/Epoxy Inlay
Zippo has achieved a striking multi-faceted dimensional look, without the additional weight and bulk of an attached emblem. An Armor case is deep carved and plated, then selectively epoxy filled for dramatic color accents.
Clear, marbled or solid epoxies can be inlayed into deep cavities by highly skilled artisans.
Only the chrome Armor can be color-filled as the color-fill scratches the gold plating.
Antique Silver Plate
This has been one of Zippo's most popular finishes for nearly two decades and has been fortified to about 1.5 times its original weight in the Armor version of Antique Silver Plate.
The Antique lighters have unique finish to give it a used, nostalgic, and time-worn look. The flat finish offers a 'weathered' look that is created by staining the pieces before they are tumbled. Each antique lighter is protected by a long-wearing clear coat to preserve the antique look.
Case and Insert
Armor case featuring rounded corners and top with a flat bottom. Armor lighter cases are about 1.5 times as thick.
Uses, standard inside unit that has 16 holes in the chimney (8 per side); same as current Zippo lighter.
A five-barrel hinge joins the top and bottom; same as current Zippo lighter.
Distinctive bottom stamp authenticates these chrome and solid brass lighters as Heavy-Walled Armor.

Having lived with this for several months, the old adage "they don't make them like they used to" comes to mind. I have a 45 year old example of the same lighter that I didn't want to risk losing, so I purchased this one. It's not the same quality. It's close, but the it's like they use metal that is just a bit thinner so the lighter has more flex in the body. Often the lid hits the flame guard and stops when closing. It just doesn't feel as robust as the old one.
My next move is to start looking in the local second hand shops for used Zippos. These days demand is low and the prices are good if you stay away from the dealers who cater to "collectors". You can buy a old lighter for around the cost of a new one and it will be a more solid item.
Last week I ordered this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CPWDFMF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thicker case, 100x better fit, finish and function so far. ( and better price )
The Amazon photo is a little misleading--the photo shows a 'blue'-ish matte tint and the scratches appear deeper and more pronounced in the photo than they really are. The 'Street Chrome' is actually a brightly polished mirror-chrome which has been lightly scratched in all directions, as if in a tumbler. It looks exactly like any mirror-polish chrome ZIPPO after it's been in your pocket for EDC carry along with keyring, coins etc for a couple of years. So, additional actual pocket wear and routine scratches won't show.
ZIPPO also offers a 'Satin Chrome' finish which is like a solid, evenly sandblasted flat matte in a light grey. Check that model out.
Solid 'click'. Feels good in the hand.
All lighters in the USA are by law shipped 'dry' (without fuel), so you'll want to buy ZIPPO or Ronsonol brand lighter fluid from any drugstore or WalMart near you. Instructions come with your ZIPPO and there are tons of useful how-to's on youTube, the ZIPPO website and on the various online Lighter Forums.
Lighter fluid (naptha, and not the same as "charcoal lighter fluid") gradually evaporates over a couple of weeks or so out of any lighter (even if not used) and will need refilling.
New owners are sometimes surprised to learn that they can't just drop this in a drawer for 6 months like any disposable Bic lighter. So a Zippo is not what you want to leave inside your long term emergency evacuation bag --the Bics are a better choice for any standby kit. You CAN reduce evaporation about 50% by storing the ZIPPO in a ziplock freezer bag--YMMV.
This is a great, useful fun retro item and a beautiful piece of Americana to own. Also check out the Street Chrome, Black Crinkle, Camo, Olive Green Matte and 1941 Replica models.
Prices for ZIPPOs on Amazon can fluctuate wildly, but are usually less than you would pay at a smoke shop or retail outlet.
Classic ZIPPO, fire in your hand, what's not to love?
Hope this is helpful. Happy 'clicking', everybody.
I bought mine in Street Chrome, mostly so that the scratches I *will* leave on it won't be distinguishable from the actual design. I drop it a lot trying to learn tricks with it - don't judge. When I *do* eventually break this thing, though, I know that Zippo has a guarantee on a lifetime warranty. That's just good customer care. Good on you, Zippo. Keep doing you.
It was not about the flint since I had packs of them so they have good customer service as well as lighters that will work long after i am gone as it should be since it is AMERICAN made company
