Editorial Reviews
From the Inside Flap
One of the great masterpieces of Western religious thought, the Zohar represents an attempt to uncover hidden meanings behind the world of appearances. It is the central work in the literature of the Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical tradition.
This volume of selected passages from the Zohar, culled by the greatest authority on Jewish mysticism, offers a sampling of its unique vision of the esoteric wonders of creation; the life and destiny of the soul; the confluence of physical and divine love; suffering and death; exile and redemption.

The book is very short - only about 125 pages. Yet, it is written in very easy to understand English by a well known scholar on the subject - Gershom Scholem, and provides the reader with a nice introduction to some of the more prominent and interesting components of the Zohar. The introduction to the book sets the stage for the reader by providing sufficient background and explanation so that the reader, once immersed in the Zohar translation itself, has a framework to understand and evaluate the context. The excerpts from the Zohar will make the reader think, and provide a glimpse into some of the more esoteric Jewish rabbinical thought. A good intro on the subject.

This text was just ok. Have been studying Kabbalah for a few years now...Wanted this text to bring some clarity to the Zohar....found this text too deep and complicated...

Okay. I was hoping for a simpler lay person approach to reading more about Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism. Not that kind of book.

A pleasanter entry into the world (or worlds) of the Kabbalah could scarcely be imagined. Very satisfying, yet it whets the appetite for more.

The spirit we are is a serious matter. We learn about to make a living, also we have to understand about death, our reality, in a way to make the person we are complete. This book is marvelous to help to understand Cabala, the spiritual side of Judaism.

A book that speaks in ~ Intellectual riddles and Symbols!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 30, 2019Verified Purchase
This is a book that needs translating - from it's hidden Symbology and Metaphors!!!!! I can see through the Literalistic hype, or Codes!!!! I am no intellectual, but I am being taken through my own 'Inner'Initiations'!! Yet, I Am not part of any group or Religion!! I have passed the book on!!!!

A magical, mystical book that nobody is able to decode without taking kabbalah classes.

It's the Zohar. A magical, mystical book that nobody is able to decode without taking kabbalah classes. Personally, I find The Hermetica more approachable and understandable. But that's just my opinion.
