Induction Heating System Rice Cooker and Warmer
NP-GBC05 (Made in Japan)
The 3-cup capacity Induction Heating (IH) System Rice Cooker and Warmer is ideal for singles and smaller families. It cooks as little as 1/2-cup of rice and takes up minimal space. Superior IH technology efficiently prepares flawless rice every time.
What Is Induction Heating (IH)?
Our Induction Heating (IH) system rice cookers are the cutting edge in heating technology. Rather than the traditional heating element at the bottom of the rice cooker, these cookers utilize induction heating principles to heat the entire inner cooking pan.
When the inner cooking pan is placed into the rice cooker and the unit is activated, coils within the bottom of the rice cooker generate a magnetic field to create instant heat within the inner cooking pan. Through this technology, the inner cooking pan itself becomes the heat source, utilizing both high heat and fine heating adjustments to control the cooking process. IH rice cookers are also micom (micro computerized) rice cookers.

GABA Brown Setting (Brown Rice Activation)
The rice cooker activates brown rice by keeping the temperature inside the pan at about 104°F for 2 hours. By activating brown rice, GABA, one of the nutrients contained in brown rice, increases its amount 1.5 times as much as that contained in non-activated brown rice. GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a type of amino acid said to lower blood pressure, improve kidney function, and relieve stress.

FYI, a replacement inner cooking pot is $68 currently at the Zojirushi site.
This is the first induction rice cooker we ever bought. (I'll call it the IRC for Induction Rice Cooker.) There are two measuring cups that come with this IRC. We only eat white rice so we'll use the white rice cup. The full white rice cup is actually 3/4 of a U.S. standard cup. This is important to know if you are expecting a 3 cup rice cooker that uses 3 standard capacity cups. But having less capacity than U.S. standard size cups is a non issue for us as cooking "2 Zojirushi cups" which is actually 1-1/2 cups of rice is fine for us (just two adults).
The first batch of white rice we cooked with the water level at exactly the 2 cup mark in the cooking pot, was really good but a little on the dry side than what we consider "perfect" rice. We'll cook the next batch with the water level slightly above the 2 cup mark. We'll have "perfect" rice in about 3 tries.
That said, the first batch was excellent, evenly cooked rice. No over cooking at the bottom since the induction heating heats the pot evenly all over. Twenty four hours later, the left over rice still in the pot is still excellent and not brown. We are very happy with this IRC and am glad we bought it.
UPDATE: After cooking many batches of white rice with this Zojirushi IRC, we can say that for 2 "Zojirushi cups" of rice with the water level slightly above the 2 cup mark in the pot, this is the BEST cooked white rice we ever had in all of our years of cooking rice. We eat rice with meals at least 1-2 times a day. The rice is perfect and the icing on the cake is that the rice seems to last in the keep warm mode for at least the end of the next day. If this rice cooker ever dies, I will definitely buy another one. SUPER GREAT PERFECT WHITE RICE !
When viewing the customer reviews for this Zojirushi rice cooker, I read one that said the cooking pot can rust. I was very concerned about that. Now that we own one, I personally don't see how that will happen. Our pot is completely coated inside and out with some sort of hard no-stick coating and water just beads and rolls off the pot. I'm a home repair kind of guy and very experienced with what will rust and what will not. I don't see our pot rusting unless we are very careless and bang the pot around to chip off the coating. In my opinion, don't let the claim of the pot rusting scare you from not buying this rice cooker.
My wife (and she would agree with me here) is terrible at cooking rice over a stove top, and in our house (I'm the husbando), I end up doing most of the cooking because she gets easily frustrated. Zojirushi has absolutely helped my wife engage cooking, even if its something simple, and she always comments on how good the room smells when rice is cooking in it. It makes cooking fun for her, even with cooking rice being such a basic task, and there's something to be said for that.
HOWEVER , this model is meant for 2-3 people at most if you do a lot of international cooking (Asian, Indian, etc) where you have a rice base to the dish upon which the main food goes on top of. For smaller portions (think side dishes), then you could squeeze 4-5 portions out of it.
It also plays Twinkle, twinkle, little star, which is gangsta as %*@! yo.

Anyway, we rarely use the rice cooker, maybe 2x’s month. So I was very surprised to see this failure. I contacted Zojirushi, they promptly responded to my email and phone call, but refused to do anything about the failed component, again surprised!
I would never again buy such and expensive appliance from this company again. Their lack of accountability or life cycle of their products is deplorable! I suggest anyone looking for quality products to stay away from this brand which is clearly NOT quality!
I love this thing. We are a family of two adults plus one toddler and we usually only make small quantities of rice so it fits the bill perfectly. I made GABA brown rice this morning and it will be ready when I get home for lunch, then will be perfectly kept warm until I get home after work.
I also use it for Congee, although I slightly modify the recommended ratio to fit my personal taste. I just turn it on before bed and wake up to perfect Congee every time.
Also, the pot is super easy to clean ... more so than any other non-stick pot I own.
Rice is a bit wet right when the cooker is done. I let it set for a bit in the warmed container to let some of the moisture evaporate.
In other words, it has been cooked well as instructed and not maintained appropriately to have good conditiin .
Therefore, wish to get a refund for it as soon as available. Thanking for your cooperation and understanding.
can you help me ???
Can we return it?
It made mahogany rice better than I can do in a pot. All other rice cookers that I tried left mahogany/wild rices hard and without flavour. The mahogany rice was fluffed up to more than double the volume I started with - each and every kernel was completely cooked and soft! There was no scorching or harder layer next to the pot.
Oatmeal made with milk (not water) was always burnt in previous rice cookers. Not here. When we got up, I opened the unit and added more milk and sweetener as all the milk had been absorbed. After my shower, the additional milk had been heated through. Spoon the oatmeal into a bowl and serve. Can it get any easier??
This unit does not take up as much counter space as other cookers that I've tried. You can tell from the start that it is a well made unit. The inner pot has the weight of a good quality pot - not some light aluminium thing. This helps even out the heat and the food doesn't start to cool down right away. The cord is short as most good appliance cords are so you don't have to coil it up on the counter. It is a heavy weight cord which shows the quality involved but also means that it is a little stiff.
Clean up is a breeze. The pot rinses out with a quick pass through the soapy water (even dried on oatmeal). The inner lid easily removes for cleaning. In fact, the inner lid dropped out with the press of the tab and was just as easy to snap back in place. A quick wipe inside and out is all that was needed.
I like the timer. You set the time that you want the food to be done and which type of cooking (white rice, etc) and walk away. I'm no longer figuring out how much time until supper. A nice touch is the music instead of another beeper when finished.
The only con - This is the perfect sized rice cooker for us but it may not make enough rice when we have company. Per the chart included with the unit, the minimum amount of uncooked rice is 1 cup (0.5 cup for short/medium grain rice)to a maximum of 2 cups (3 cups for short/medium grain rice). This may not be enough for 4 adults (depending upon appetite) for most types of rices that I use. Switching to the 5.5 cup machine is not an option as the minimum oatmeal you can cook is 2 cups which would be way too much for just the 2 of us.
