Micom (Microcomputer) Technology
Micom or microcomputerized rice cookers are easily recognizable by their digital face.
Equipped with a computer chip, the rice cooker can 'think' and adjust cooking length and temperatures according to the thermal sensor's calculations.
Unlike with conventional rice cookers, soaking and steaming time before and after cooking rice is automatically programmed.

Even though it might take about an hour at times to make the rice, I have always had perfect results thanks to the fuzzy logic. I am completely okay with waiting the extra time for perfect rice. I always rinse my rice until the water runs clear before putting it in and have never had a problem.
I have noticed that if I leave it on the 'warm' setting for an hour or more that my rice will dry out a lot and not be as sticky. So if you like your rice sticky, make sure that you set the timer to be as close to the time that you will be home as possible.
I have cooked white rice, brown rice, and wild rice without problems and have gotten perfect rice each time. Completely worth the extra cash for fuzzy logic. I haven't tried the porridge setting or making cakes yet, but I'm sure that I will have good results.
Nonstick material has been holding up great so far and cleans up very easily. I only use the rice spoon that came with the rice cooker in order to help preserve the nonstick.
Great product and came with a thorough instruction manual. Would definitely rebuy it if I had any problems with it in the future.
This rice cooker, after you hit the Cook button, lets the rice soak in the water without doing anything else for 15 minutes before starting the cooking cycle. This results in very moist rice. If you are in a hurry, or prefer the rice not quite so moist, you push the program button twice. You will hear 2 beeps. You don't even have to look if you hear the 2 beeps, but what you have done is change to the Quick Cook program. (There is an indicator to this effect in the display but it is easier just to listen). The Quick Cook program eliminates the 15 minute soaking cycle, and now your rice will cook just as fast as any other cooker. We like drier rice with a saucy meal, and moister rice for dryer entrees. Otherwise, the unit works great and you do not have to be fussy (within reason) about the right rice-water ratio. The fuzzy logic knows when the water is gone and the rice is ready. If you really over-do the water, then even in Quick Cook the rice will take a long time because all that extra water has to cook off. In a cheap cooker, -you'd have soggy rice from too much water, -it's too dumb to know better. Best of all this rice cooker is perfect for 2 (us), would certainly work for 3, and would work for 4 normal eaters, but pushing it for big rice eaters at 4 persons. We probably use it 5 or 6 days a week. This is our 3rd one since 2003, so they don't last forever, but one died when my wife submerged it to clean it, so I figure they last about 10 years. The newest version plays "Now I Know My ABCs" when you hit cook, which is obviously very juvenile and hence annoying for us, -but it only lasts a few seconds. If anyone reads this, -get rid of the jingle please! It's expensive, but if you want a decent 2-person rice cooker, -this is the one.
In comparison to our Black and Decker rice cooker, this one is miles ahead!
- Programmable! You can put your rice and water in the cooker, set it to be ready at a certain time, and it is always perfectly on the dot!
- No burnt or crispy layer on the bottom. Just soft, fluffy rice.
- You can bake cakes in it, and it has a setting for that (and recipes with the right measurements)
- Plays cute little tunes (Twinkle Twinkle when it begins, Amaryllis when it's completed)
- Rounded, compact, has a sleek Japanese design
- I don't know, the price maybe? To me, it's a good price for everything you're getting with it. I could see how some people would find it steep though.
I'll update my review in a few months to talk longevity.
