Zombie Patrol (Scouts vs. Zombies Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 1 rating

The military was overwhelmed with the deadly sickness that ravaged the world overnight. Troops fled in fear from the people they promised to protect. Militias sprang up around the country and forced everyone over the age of eighteen to abandon their own families and fight. Those that were left behind struggled to survive with what they had.
The creatures walked the night while the survivors huddled behind bolted doors, praying that they live to see another day. A group of young boys decided to take action - they were taught to ‘be prepared,’ so they stepped up to the task.
As the world around them collapsed under the brutality of the undead, these Scouts vowed to protect the innocents that were left behind.
This is their story…

Malissa Hall was raised by a rancher's son and a farmer's daughter. Born on the west coast but raised on the Islands and settled in the Midwest she had a slightly nomadic childhood which is typical of a Navy 'brat.' Married to a supportive 'redneck' husband, they combined their individual families, plus one, and raised five children together.

She resides in rural Georgia and spends most of her days writing and volunteering within her community. In her hours away from typing on the computer she enjoys camping, reading, gardening, traveling, and working on her hobby farm while feeding her addiction to the Syfy and BBC channel.

Her love of reading was passed on from her parents while her creative spark began when she started to write short stories for first her younger brother while in her youth that grew to spinning stories for her children as they were growing up. She finally decided to put them down in short novels for the young adult reading genera.

She has a vast span of authors that she draws her inspiration and joy of reading from. Ranging from Edgar Allan Poe, Harper Lee, Shakespeare and Homer to the notoriously funny, late Erma Bombeck to the current internationally know authors who share her love of fiction; Nora Robert, Ilona Andrews, Jeanine Frost, Patricia Briggs, Kim Harrison, Carrie Vaughn and Karen Chance.

Blessed Be!

I had been waiting for the release of this book on Kindle and finally had the time to read it. The character introductions gave great insight to some of the past heartache that the characters brought into the group with the infection impacting their families. It's a fast read, but it kept me interested and the end definitely leaves the reader ready for the next book. It's an intriguing concept for a story and I appreciate the focus on Scouts and family. It's not too gruesome, but not all of the nasty little details of zombie behavior is glossed over. It's a great YA read.
