Dear Reader,

Thank you for taking the time out to read this. My love of books can be traced back to the time I spent as a kid living in lighthouses. Despite what you may see on the news or read about on the internet the life of a lighthouse keepers son is not all Glamour and Parties. There's a lot of time when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf. Watching your dad pull fishing lures out of various parts of peoples bodies can also provide for some amusement. (You'd be amazed!)

My guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!

The thing I like about them is the development of the protagonist. While the world falls apart around them these flawed heroes stand tall. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to stay alive. I like seeing the different ways this shapes them for the good or the bad. These stories speak at a primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I tag along seeing how they manage and whether it breaks them or forges them into something greater than they were.

I read. I read a lot. We had a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at my school where every time you read a book you put your name on your color paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give me two colors because it was looking more like a worm than a caterpillar. I devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of my life. I've moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and my guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!

I like reading about the extremes people will go to to survive. The ones who can rise above the rest and keep their sense of right and wrong. When humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes stand tall and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to keep themselves and others alive. I like to see how this either hardens or breaks them. I think these stories speak at a very primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I get to tag along seeing how the survivors manage and how the experience forges them into something more than they were.

Every book, every hero and heroine just continues to get knocked down and get back up to continue fighting.
So much action, so much heartache, so much evil and SO much good and hope in the humanity that remains alive and outnumbered by zombies.
Every book got a 5 star rating, meaning I loved it so much that it will be re-read at some point.
Excellent one liners by the author that are exquisitely descriptive and funny. There is not a single thing to not love about this series.
Dig in like an andrenalized zombie- you cannot be disappointed in this series if this is your jam.

I hate giving a "middle of the road" review but felt it was warranted in this case.

The good: Plot and some characters.

The bad: Dialogue, much of the action/descriptions, and the lack of editing.

Felt like there was a good story in there somewhere and there were parts that were fun to read, BUT... much of the action, as well as the dialogue, were confusing, awkward, or just made no sense. Granted, the ZA is sure to be chaotic and confusing but it was just too much for me after about 3/4 of the way through, had to tap out...

The characters have depth but I'd say I have only just started to connect with them on a deeper personal level. I am a zompoc lover sobive read lots and I can genuinely say this was good and kept me interested the whole time. It's not easy to write what's already been written better than it was. R.S. did it. I look forward to reading them all in this series.

Good character development with how people will behave when society falls. Expect there to be hero's like Brenda, and villains like the preacher. Kyler and Mike is where the slow reading comes to view. Those two guys probably have not made it 50 miles from their original location. Throw an alcoholic in a zombie apocalypse, someone is going to become one of the undead.

I had mixed feelings about this book, mainly because you follow different characters, so sometimes you really don't want to go back to others because what's happening is keeping you on the edge of your seat. But once it goes down, it doesn't stop. I really enjoyed this book for its realistic and harsh side and even though I am not soft for gory things, the writer is excellent at making you uncomfortable with the details sometimes. I recommend this book for anyone else that loves zombie books !
