Jake is part of the crew that went out every weekend, hooking up with different willing women each night. This seemed to be the type of life that made him happy until one seemingly normal outing to a bar introduced him to Harper. Remember Harper? If you don’t, you’re missing out on another good story. Harper used to room with Sam (another soldier’s soon-to-be-wife from another book). Sure, they’re still BFFs, but they don’t really get to see each other much due to Harper’s demanding career as a chef. On her rare nights off, she likes to blow off steam in exactly the same way as Jake.
This is where the dirty time begins. Harper refreshingly and bluntly picks up Jake after he introduces himself and they quickly progress to the one-night-stand portion of the evening. So what’s different? They both know there could be more, but ignore it in favor of their seemingly simple lifestyles… until they re-meet at Sam’s party. From there, it was really fun to watch them dance around their growing feelings and altered attitudes. This HEA was particularly satisfying and I’m happy I got to read it.
Jake is just near perfect from the first scene of them together at the club to the end. Again - that is rare for a strong male lead character as well, but these men always seem to stay strong and true throughout. Gotta love the Army in this series.
Their "sex on request" relationship is exactly what they both want or at least what they think they want. What was different about this one is that neither of them immediately wanted more - it was a developing relationship without one pining more than the other.
Here is a swoon-worthy quote (and it's not even Jake's) - "Having a real relationship doesn't mean your life is over...It usually means the best part of your life is just beginning." <3
I cannot recommend this one highly enough!
OK - this is the story of Jake Robinson and Harper Drummond. It's Friday night, Jake and a bunch of the guys from Fort Lee are headed into Petersburg - to the local bar - to see if they can get lucky. Meanwhile, Harper and her co-worker, head to the same bar to unwind. Since this is a short story and I don't write spoilers, I will tell you that you really need to read this and find out what happens.
Tawdra does an amazing job with writing these stories -- keep up the good work!!!
Despite this being part of a series, it does well as a stand alone read. Yes, there is mention of characters from earlier installments, but it's not required to have read the others to enjoy this one. I have read all of the books so it was nice to see the mention of previous characters...to see where Derek is since his accident (and find out that his story is coming up), plus Max and Samantha as they prepare for their wedding.
Very much looking forward to the next story...but also dreading it because I know that means we're so close to the end of the series.
In this one, Jake and Harper find more than they bargained for when they decided to have a one night stand. Fate had other plans. Harper is a handful. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it. Jake is in for a hard time if he hopes to have more than one night with Harper. I can't wait to see what they next book brings.
There're not as many 'military' scenes in this book as in the others of the series but the scene in his office is superb.
Getting together with friends from previous books was a bonus of having read the others. They're all such good people.
It was nice to read a book in which no one was a real jerk.
I received an ARC of this book and am providing an unbiased review.
