One Mercury Vapor Flood Lamp
This lamp emits UV and is intended for Reptile use only. Position lamp fixture and lamp so that it is directed away from human eyes. do not stare into lamp. Do not spill/splash water on lamp. If the lamp glass envelope cracks or breaks, unplug lamp and discard. . 1. Make sure that you have the right lamp. The 160 watt Power-Sun UV is designed for large terrarium enclosures and veterinary use. The 100-watt is more appropriate for medium size terrariums. All animals should be able to get a minimum of 12” away from the lamp as well as have a cooler area away from the lamp. 2. Open package and carefully remove lamp. Hold lamp by the base and inspect glass envelope for any possible cracks or damage. If lamp shows any signs of damage see guarantee section of this manual. 3. Zoo Med’s PowerSun UV must be housed in a reptile dome clamp fixture with a ceramic or porcelain base. Screw lamp into base then attach clamp part to something secure like the top rim of terrarium, or use Zoo Med’s Repti Lamp Stand. Position clamp lamp on the far right or left side of terrarium. Position dome part of clamp lamp aiming downward and slightly to the rear of the terrarium thus minimizing human eye contact with lamp. Do not mount lamp horizontally. 4. Screen top; make sure the PowerSun UV lamp and fixture are above a screen cover. This lap gets hot; don’t let your animals make direct contact with the lamp. 5. Plug fixture into electrical outlet. The PowerSun UV will take five minutes to warm up and reach its full intensity. The PowerSun UV will continue to change hue until it has completely warmed up. 6. Restarting: The PowerSun UV will take 15 minutes to cool down before being restarted. This is due to a thermal reset feature intended to prevent damage to the lamp by overheating.

Not sure where the issue with the broken bulbs originates, so my rating is not based on that. The bigger issue is that the bulbs don't last as long as they're supposed to, and they're inconsistent in productivity. We have two bulbs hanging in each aquarium. We put two new bulbs in at the same time. Most often, one starts failing before the other, with a distinct change in the color of the light, usually white when we first get it, and a dimmed white or cream as it starts to fade. Other problems include the bulbs turning off, sometimes right after we turn on the lamps. This is never consistent, and nobody seems to have an explanation for it. We replaced the lamps, the first time this happened, so the lamps are not the problem. Further, We switched the defective light bulb to another lamp, and the bulb continued to be defective, ruling out problems with the lamps.
Regardless, given that our vet advises that other brands have other issues, we have no choice but to continue to buy these bulbs.
I also noticed this lamp has a more natural sunlight to it and a good warmth.
The aquarium color is no longer being clouded by the yellow color from bulbs I used to use with UVA and basking alone.
The bulb itself seems to be holding up very well, I was worried because some people on the reviews got a "dud", mine is working good.
Lastly, some bulbs tend to burn the turtle shell, this one seems to be properly basking them without too much heat that burns.

Our terrapins love basking under this light, and their shells have definitely improved since we introduced it.
Our set-up: we have it on a timer which has it on for 90 mins and off for 30 mins throughout the day, then off all night. We didn't want to risk blowing the bulb - even though I'm sure that's a silly worry - because it does get pretty hot.
I think the UVB lasts for only a year, so you have to keep this in mind. Worth the money!
