Sharon's done an outstanding job with "Zoom Factor for the Enterprise Architect: How to Focus and Accelerate Your Career." At over 350 pages it's packed with information, insight and resources that can help Enterprise Architects with their careers. Find out where exactly your expertise fits so you can search for jobs that suit you best. Zoom Factor can also help companies who are in need of Eas but want to be sure they choose the best match.
Too often EAs focus on technical skills and not people skills and too often headhunters focus on people skills and not technical skills. Here, Sharon Evans brings both together nicely. What helped me most was "Analyze as an Architect" and "Drive Success Through Process," both of which were chapters that told me exactly how to take my skill set, refine it and incorporate "people skills" that I had, and present myself as a package that would benefit companies. The company who ultimately hired me NEVER WOULD HAVE in my opinion if I had gone with what I had before I better developed myself with Zoom Factor.
The "Zoom Factor" chapter checklists have helped to speed up my work and decision making. Thanks to this amazing read I now have a better feel for my career path and I am more organized and confident in my skills and what my skills are worth.
If you have an interest in Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture or Domain Architecture, this book will broaden your understanding of these roles and help you decide if you are willing to take on the responsibilities of one of the most challenging roles in IT. As a practicing architect I this information as a good sanity check on the tools and techniques I currently utilize.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone thinking about, starting, or practicing architecture in their company.
