I have to say this thing sounds absolutely awesome. I cannot believe the sounds I am getting. I hooked it up to the computer and there were a bunch of updates and new pedals, amps, etc. Great sound quality aside, the build quality is great for the money. It has a heavy metal enclosure which gives it a nice solid feel. The buttons and knobs are all high quality and can definitely take a beating. The pedal is not the smoothest, but it stays put and doesn't bind anywhere. It comes with the power supply unlike some of the lower end products.
Overall I would highly recommend the Zoom G3Xn to any one regardless of their guitar experience. Having all these great effects really makes practicing a joy. Speaking of practicing, the looper and backing tracks that are BUILT-IN are great sounding!
I ended up returning this pedal because I was disappointed with the additional limitations compared to the previous G3 (not "n") series. On the older G3s you could use up to 6 pedals, with the only limitation being that each had an invisible DSP "cost" and if you used too many advanced pedals (like 5 amps in a chain, or something) you would get an error until you replaced something. On the G3Xn I was often limited to 4 because many pedals -- including all of the amps, I think -- take up two "slots".
Also the number of pedals is significantly lower on the new series. I'd say the average "quality" of each pedal is higher (there are some really niche ones on the original series, and some that don't really sound great), but I'd prefer the variety, honestly. Even worse, the original series had a bunch "double" pedals, such as Delay/Reverb that would go into a single slot, but the "n" series does not so in practice I'm using 7 or even 8 virtual "pedals" on my G3.
At the end of the day I couldn't replicate the majority of the patches I had made on the G3, mostly because of the slot limitations, and that was very disappointing.
Also I had more trouble with the newer/different software. While the G3's "Edit and Share" software is kind of dated-looking, it is certainly powerful enough. And finally, the built-in DI is gone. This is a big loss for going on stage with a minimal rig.
All that having been said, the pedal does the job, sounds great, and the build quality is fantastic. For the price you still can't beat it. I just wish it wasn't functionally a downgrade from the older model.
Get a G3 or G3X instead if you can, even on eBay. If you want something that looks more professional on stage, or you aren't really worried about the reduced functionality/versatility, then go ahead and pick this up. It's still by far the best value effects pedal in production right now.
Most of the stock patches you’d never use, they’re just installed to show you what the unit is capable of but there are some that are pretty decent. With a little tweaking, you can have a great patch.
Creating your own is simple as well. Many good sounding amps, cabs and effects are available inside. You can also go on Zooms website, update the software and get more great amps and cabs. Selecting and adjustments to the amps and effects are not overwhelming either.
There are a bunch of comparison videos on YouTube with this and some of the other name brands and this one stuck out to me the most. I really wanted to go for a Boss ME80 or a GT100 but this Zoom, in my opinion, sounded better. No, it’s not an Axe FX or Kemper but for the money, you really can’t go wrong. Plus, it’ll fit on a pedal board if you want to incorporate it into your existing effects.

I bought the G3XN planning to use it solely as an effects unit in the effects loop of my tube amp (Orange OR15). It works perfectly for that because the effects are high quality and very low noise. I can use a single patch in stompbox mode and toggle individual effects on and off, or switch to patch mode and switch between entire patches (or entire banks of patches), switching all of my effects instantly.
The surprise was how good the amp and cab modeling is. Whether I use a modeled amp on the G3XN into the power amp of my OR15 and into my guitar cab, or use a modeled amp and cab with a full-range flat response amp and speaker or headphones, it’s easy to get a really nice sound from clean all the way to extreme high gain. You do have to dial in each amp, just like with real amps, and make sure your cab settings are appropriate (for example, turn the mic on with headphones or an FRFR amp).
The built-in patches seem to be aimed more at demonstrating the capabilities of the unit rather than providing truly useful settings. They’re all way over the top for whatever they’re designed to do. For example, the high gain settings have way too much delay and most have distortion pedals or boosts on by default. I’ve achieved far better sounds by dialing in the amp model the way I like and then adding effects, the same way you would with real amps and stompboxes.
I think that speaks to the quality of the effect and amp modeling, because the various effects and amps work together just like the real thing. And this thing actually has the headroom to take pedals well - I tried using my Turbo Rat, which can put out a ton of volume and drive any amp input into distortion, and the amp models distorted like real amps (but the input of the Zoom did not - it took the higher voltage signal with out any issues).
Also, these N-series models, unlike the previous Zoom multi-effect units, uses impulse responses so they sound much more like using a real amp and cab than earlier products.
To summarize, this works perfectly as a multi-effects unit with a real amp, and has replaced almost all of my pedals, but it also works surprisingly well as a full amp and cab modeler. I would have no problem using this on its own live, whether on its own direct into a PA or in combination with a real guitar amp.
(depending on the type of efxs ur using). Create great tones suitable for all music genre. If budget is less go for it , but if u can add some more amount then go for zoom G5n. They have the same sound engine but we get more processing power n tweekablity in G5n.
