LIVETRAK L-8
Podcasting, Music and Beyond
Creators are evolving—and so are we. Zoom LiveTrak L-8 makes it easier than ever to mix, monitor and record professional-sounding podcasts and music performances in one portable, affordable package.
Sound Pad Magic
Just press a button to play intros, outros, jingles, ads and sound effects. With 6 easily-assignable Sound Pads, the right sound is at your fingertips.
First-Time Caller, Long-Time Listener
Remote interviews are a snap with the L-8; just connect your phone via the provided TRRS cable. The Mix-Minus function automatically prevents echo and feedback to and from the caller. Or use the USB connection to route audio from Skype, Facetime, Hangouts, Slack and more.
Freedom of Speech
Zoom’s preamps are famous for a good reason: they’re transparent, powerful and ultra-reliable. The L-8 features six independent Zoom preamps, built to handle anything from a whisper to a raucous debate.
Hear Yourself Talk
If you can’t hear yourself, how are you supposed to speak your mind? The L-8 is equipped with four headphone outputs, so that each participant can clearly hear what is going on.
The pros know that when you record everyone on their own separate track it just sounds better and provides more flexibility in the edit. The L-8 records separate tracks directly to your SD card, enabling you to edit them later.
On Air, On the Move
The Zoom LiveTrak L-8 can run up to 2 ½ hours with just four AA batteries, or on a USB battery, so you can podcast from anywhere.
Record Twice, Once
Used as an audio interface, the L-8 can record full episodes directly to your computer and an SD card simultaneously. You can also live stream while recording.
L-8 is class compliant, enabling connection with iOS devices. Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter required
From singer-songwriters to small bands, the L-8 is the ideal mixer and recorder for musicians who may be small in number, but big on sound.
Coming Through Loud & Clear
The L-8 features six high performance preamps each with phantom power, a low noise floor (-121dBU EIN), and maximum input gain of +54dB.
Additionally there are two each Hi-Z, line-level and USB inputs. You can also fine-tune each channel with EQ and onboard effects.
True Multi-Track Recording
The L-8 lets you record up to 10 discrete tracks plus a stereo mix directly to an SD card at resolutions up to 24-bit/96 kHz*. You can punch-in and overdub with ease, then transfer your work to your favorite DAW for fine tuning.
*Effects, EQ, overdub, and audio interface are not available in 96 kHz.
Individual Monitor Mixes
Never settle for that “compromise” monitor mix again. The L-8 provides three custom monitor mixes, so no matter where you are on stage, you hear exactly what you need.

Extremely capable device. The battery power alone makes it worth buy if you need a bunch of inputs and you do mobile work of any kind.
Knocked one star off because no manual to speak of (just a quick start guide) and its layout is definitely for those of us who know how to use a mixer. Not for beginners, and especially, not your mom doing her podcast (unless you like providing tech support for your mom)
It's also well priced, but, not a great price. It's obviously competing with the Rodecaster Pro and, from a functionality standpoint, it's a real competitor. It is NOT as easy to use (not even close) as the Rocecaster Pro, and it doesn't have the high-end processing and touch screen capabilities.
But it's good enough. If you don't have the 6 benjamins the Rode product costs, and you know how to use a real mixer, this is your buy. If you have the extra 2 bills though, and you don't need battery power, think about that Rode product.
Its a brilliant little machine with so many pointless flaws that Zoom could easily change. I bought it, I liked it; then I saw a comparison video on youtube. You don't even realize the many issues with this L-8 until you see what the other mixers offer in this category. In all honesty this unit has some great features but if you are going to drop hundreds of dollars check out what other mixers have (by comparison). There is a Pyle unit that has almost everything the L-8 has and its $250 less. Yes, I know, "but its Pyle". I didn't go with that brand, I'm just sharing others I found. I went with the Rodecaster Pro. Its a couple hundred more but watch a comparison on youtube between the Rodecaster and the L-8. The cord management (plugging in the back vs the top) is worth choosing another option (for this reason alone). The best reason to go with the Rode is all the digital processing that comes along with the Rode (limiter, compressor, etc...) The best thing about the L-8 is the EQ that is customizable on every channel. -There is no EQ on the Rode. If you are using different mics (shotgun along with a dynamic mic or ribbon) you can add bass to your shotgun or turn up the highs on a ribbon mic (on L-8). The final straw for me was that on the L-8 you can only turn phantom power on (for all channels) or off (on all channels). The Rode has phantom power PER CHANNEL. Also, the L-8 LED screen is overly complicated.
You can't have it all. There are pro's and con's with everything but take the time to watch some videos on both options. The EQ is the best feature on the L-8 but unless you watch some videos on other mixers you won't actually know all that you are missing.

Another 5 star product from Zoom. Very flexible, simple to use. Preamps offer plenty of gain, headphone outputs are loud. Works well as an audio interface. Connect this to a USB power bank and get high quality recordings anywhere. This is my first digital mixer, I've always used audio interfaces. This can do so much more than a typical usb audio interface for the same price and quality.

Very portable. The built-in mix minus for phone calls is great. The on-board mic processing is pretty cheesy, but other than that, I have no complaints. If you want really easy, I'd recommend looking at the Rode Rodecaster board. It's easier to use and the mic processing is very good. It also comes with bluetooth and a phone mix minus. Also, if you're not into 'mixing boards' get the Rode....it's much easier to run.
I have purchased several digital recorders and this has become my go to recorder. My search for a portable digital recorder with more than two phantom powered channels too me to this amazing recorder. Simply put it was very difficult a good portable recorder with SIX high performance pre-amps each with phantom power. It is important to note, this board packs layers of menu driven controls that can become part of a pre-set. This expands the recorders capacity produce great recordings. Thus a review of the user's guide is STRONGLY encouraged. This will reduce frustration. 6 assignable Sound Pads, with 13 preset sounds is a lot of fun and adds an additional dimension pod-casters. Simply put this is an amazing recorder!

I produce podcasts for a living - at work we have the "looks like a death star super sexy looking" originator of the "podcast recorder" market. I've been using that beautiful piece of hardware since not long after it was released. When I need to buy a podcast recorder for my home studio, I choose the Zoom LiveTrak L-8.
1. Audio is great. 2. Mic pre-amps are classic Zoom (and the pads are nice) 3. You can record ONLY the tracks you want to 4. You can see settings "at a glance" (no menu surfing during operation) 5. Getting 2.25 AA batteries recording on 4 channels with dynamic mics 6. Headphones have separate mixes (seriously? so good) 7. Seven mixes ("scenes") - show presets! 8. You can manage the pads internally. 9. Did I mention you can run it on AA batteries or USB power pack 10. When connected to a computer, it's a very capable audio interface 11. The audio out from the XLR is very good 12. AA batteries...I mean...record walking down the street (awkward) or front steps (cool) 13. Light 14. Almost $300 cheaper than competitors?!!?
You've probably noticed I love it. I do. That said, cons, light means plastic, but it doesn't feel cheap. That's about it.

It will not mix seperate inputs together , you only get seperate wav files, very disapointed with that , But it does work very well for headphones and volume control , it also works well with old mac book air and garage band , still trying to import greyed out wav files though from sd card into garage band or any daw , ill update whenever I figure that out , it could very well be my old mac book fault . Overall good for band jamming with headphones . But I did try a mic and it did not work will uodate when that works .
There is a bit of a learning curve if you aren't familiar with using mixers. The versatility, sound quality, and portability of this unit are unmatched. I would suggest it to anyone looking to produce an audio production on the go.
