Top customer reviews
Build on this is top class no issues. NOT some cheap base, really great quality here. And the remote control is handy.
By it's self perfect for home entertainment.
Now for the bad.
For some reason the right audio channel does not work when I plug it into a TV. If I plug it into my HIFI without the video in, then the audio works perfect. And that is the only thing wrong other than I had to replace the remotes battery which was DOA. No big deal.
Now I don't have RGB cords (or enough RCA cables for that matter anymore) so I can not test out my theory that it has something to do with the way that it's wired.
So whenever I get my hands on some RCA cords I will try again and edit my review.
As for now it does work on my garage HIFI just fine.
Oh, it comes with a remote control so you can control your Zune from anywhere in the room without getting up. So., you've got fingertip access to your entire library in the palm of your hand..That, combined with the TV picture, ensures hours of enjoyment.
At this price, perhaps the bargain of the century.
This dock was developed for the pre-HD series but it works well with my Zune HD. I'm using it for audio only. Some compromises are involved using this dock with a Zune HD: the HD FM radio has no antenna connection in this dock (the HD-specific docks have an antenna attached) so it won't pick up any stations. The Zune HD doesn't fit any of the included plastic mounting panel inserts, so it just stands up on the connector and I suppose it could be bent if it were bumped hard enough.
Picking an album and playing it through while kicking back on the couch is where this dock works well, considering the remote. The remote just needed a new battery. It works for the basic functions- volume, play/pause, skipping tracks. Batteries are around 50 cents on eBay.
Overall, a pretty great device for ten bucks!
I love this device as I don't have to stick my headphones on me all the time and can listen to my music and charge it at the same time without having people shout at me to be heard. Neither do I have to buy a $100 dock cum speaker system with limited options. I can setup my audiophile system, or connect my Plasma TV to watch photos with friends and family, watch DVD quality movies (with component cables connected). Even with simple composite video the picture quality is quite good and for those 1080p movies, we can always go BluRay. I was a bit disappointed that we cant use applications while the dock is connected though.
The dock is nicely weighed with rubber base so its stable and as of now, I am using 80GB adapter plate with the HD and its great apart from extra space at the sides which doesn't matter. Don't use your Zune without a adapter plate as the port might get damaged due to lack of support. The remote layout is similar to the Zune interface, back button left corner, up down for volume/scrolling, left right for forward rewind and play at top right corner with a center button for selecting. Simple yet functional although not high quality unlike other parts of the dock like the cables or the dock itself. The back of the dock has got a fixed USB cable, 3.5mm jack for the av cable and under the cover, component video outputs. No HDMI or digital outputs, only analog which quite frankly gets the job done pretty well and the output depends on the quality of the source file. This dock simply expands the media player capability to a new level!
Note: If there is no TV output, click on settings>tv output>composite video after checking all connections (power needs to be supplied using the supplied power adapter/laptop and USB cable). If still no video, just restart the device while it is on the dock by keeping power button pressed for 10 seconds. Also, check the switch on the back of the dock.
If remote is not working, replace the button cell!
Update 1: Ok, I tried using the component out from the dock to watch on my HDTV but, there was no color. The composite out works flawlessly but apparently Zune HD doesnt support component out. The only output from the component cables I recieve is from the Y port while none from the Pb, Pr ports. I did some digging but this is what some people reported. Anyways, the output from composite video is clear enough and although component video would be great but if you want better quality video, you have to go the HDMI way and buy the more expensive HD dock which is for about $120 as of now. The component video works great for older models of the Zune though.
