The perfect over the bed tablet holder. It does the job for half the price of its competitors. Great product.

1 star for the strong gooseneck, but I should have returned this. This wouldn't hold my tablet at all - the holder would not stayed closed, springing open constantly.

Also, I read the comment about the packing material and thought "What a weird thing to focus on...how bad could packaging material possibly be?" Now I totally understand - Even if this worked as it was supposed to and wasn't so cheaply made, I would never have bought it again - the styrofoam this came in is really THAT bad.

That said, I didn't return it, I used the parts of it to make the kind of stand I actually wanted and couldn't find. The gooseneck on it was especially strong and I liked the particular way it clamped to my work table. Plus, my youngest had a field day shredding that styrofoam (my house looks like a snowstorm blew through the inside and I think it always will - this stuff will NOT vacuum up and sticks to EVERYTHING!) so returning it just turned into too big of a hassle for me to bother with.

So, even though it worked out for me and I made it into something better than I could buy, I'm assuming most people considering this product aren't looking to do that. I'd look at other ones - even if the spring had worked at first, the holder on this is made of such cheap plastic that another part snapped off while I was just moving it around, trying to look at what was wrong.

I know it's significantly less expensive than the rest, but really, it's just not worth it.

(btw: if you're browsing stands like this, in general - totally go for it! Paired with a bluetooth keyboard, this is now more comfortable to work on than my laptop or even my desktop computer, as I can adjust everything with regards to ergonomics. Plus, it's awesome to be able to lay in bed and have my 'book' held perfectly in front of my face for me at night- I have carpal tunnel, so that's worth a lot. Just don't buy this one.)

This is an excellent aid. I have a 7 inch Kindle Fire HD, and this holds it securely. The arm is quite stiff, allowing it to be bent into a shape and actually stay there. I have it attached to my desk so that I can look at the Kindle as I develop applications for it... Worth the money spent.

While this is a good idea, the execution in one small detail has made this useless to me for it's intended purpose.

GOOD:

Strong gooseneck
Good desk/table clamp
Good holding system for tablets (with a big caveat, see below in BAD)

BAD:

Styrofoam packing material!
Plastic knuckle assembly makes this useless for heavier tablets
Ratcheting tablet retention assembly feels cheap

First, the packing material is styrofoam. This means that when you open the box, little styrofoam pellets will get all over your freshly cleaned carpet and clothes, and it will take 20 minutes to clean up the mess. Very bad choice, especially now with all the alternative recyclable packing materials available.

The gooseneck is very strong. It holds whatever position you move it to, and will hold significant weight. The desk/table clamp is a standard cup and screw w/handle, and it will open fairly wide, although not quite wide enough for certain desks/tables. The holding system for the tablets is fairly good, as well, although the ratcheting mechanism feels cheap, and will probably break, as will the knuckle that holds the entire assembly to the tablet mounting pad.

Here is where we find the fatal flaw in this product: the knuckle that secures the tablet retention platform to the gooseneck is made of cheap plastic, and it is held on with integrated plastic clips. The first time I mounted my wife's iPad to it, it broke in two pieces, and two small parts from the inside (a spring and a ball bearing) went flying, and the iPad fell onto the desk. Luckily, it was a short fall, so the iPad was not damaged.

Works just like it says. The tablet I have is only a 7 inch but it is nice not having to hold it to use.
