Product Description
Compliant with 802.11n technology, the ZyXEL NBG-418N Wireless N Home Router can upgrade home network with faster wireless speed of up to 300 Mbps* to provide more stable and reliable wireless connections for Web surfing and multimedia streaming. With Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) technology, the NBG-418N enhances your experiences for audio, video and voice applications over wireless network by the capability of prioritizing different types of network traffics to optimize performance. Equipped with a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) push button, establishing a secure wireless network could not be easier. The WPS takes only a few seconds to set up a secure wireless network without any complicated procedure. Besides, 64/128-bit WEP,WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK are supported to provide stringent protection for wireless transmissions. Featuring power-saving mode, the NBG-418N can automatically save energy waste when there is no transmission traffic. In addition, the NBG-418N can detect the length of connected Ethernet cables and adjust power usage accordingly. The shorter the Ethernet cable length is, the less power it consumes.

Not sure if its a defect in the equipment or its a defective piece.
Configuration was easy when connected to the router using cat5. Configuration was not worth trying over wifi. Over wifi every configuration change that was saved resulted in the wifi connection hanging until the unit was rebooted.
As I added a few more wireless IP cameras to our home security system the constant streaming if 6 video feeds began to bog down our wireless network so I decided to use one of the NBG418's to give them their own network. This has also worked well. The one glitch I did run into was that on the shipping firmware the thing would occasionally spontaneously reboot. This was more of an annoyance than a real issue as once it finished cycling all would once again be working as it should. I gave tech support a call anyway and they suggested updating to the most recent firmware. Problem solved.
So far, working full time streaming 6 video streams to a camera viewer/server, this router is preforming flawlessly. Better, in fact, then the Actiontec router supplied by Verizon.
I now have the other two original units flashed with the updated firmware and running as repeaters on the 2 wireless networks and they are also working well in that role. I just ordered 2 more. One to use as a repeater for the garage/backyard and the other to have on hand as a spare should any of the other go belly up.
I read some of the other reviews here about Comcast customers having issues with maintaining a connection. I have to wonder if this is not more of an issue with Comcast then with the router as I have Verizon FiOS here and the connection has been rock solid.
Clearly listed operation mode, standard config save/restore.
Anoying:
Switching operation mode (access point/client etc..) it would revert it's IP address to a 192.168.1.X.
If such a mode was 'client' or other mode where it defaultls the dhcp server off, it meant you had to MANUALLY configure your PC to connect to it until you corrected the IP address. I wish it would have at least used the same first 3 octets as given already before switch. Was flaky when it had an invalid IP address but acted in client mode.
Bad:
Would be nice if configuration web access was HTTPS rather than plain HTTP
