As some other people have mentioned, the pit catcher at the bottom is rather useless, but it is easily removable, and if you want to leave it on, there is a "trap door" that you can just leave open, and pit over your garbage can.
Is this going to change your life? Probably not. Are you going to think it's super handy and helpful when you need to pit a boat load of cherries for your next pie or crumble? you sure are!
I agree that the catch for the pits is rather cumbersome, but so what...dont use it.
I had previously tried the paper clip technique (based on a suggestion from an online recipe site), which worked fine, but for me was really tedious, and hard on the fingers.
The Zyliss cherry pit remover works just great, and feels virtually effortless. The packaging suffered from a distinct lack of instructions (so I only gave it 4 stars), but I was able to figure it out fairly quickly. The trap door on the reservoir is a bit hard to open (although if you overfill the reservoir, the door will quickly pop open on its own). Most of the time I just twist the reservoir off to empty it, and that works fine. Obviously, some splattering occurs through the opening of the splatter guard, but all in all I thought this cherry pitter does a great job for the price.

Works, just empty the pit reservoir after the 4th cherry otherwise it will explode and cherry juice will get everwhere. But it pits very well. Read morePublished 11 months ago by Pamela A Vazquez

I only got to use it once. It arrived with the plastic shield broken into pieces. I mentioned to return it and complain, but I am one busy mommy. Maybe try another brand?Published 13 months ago by GLBell
